I thought it best to try and put yesterday behind us and pick our hypothatical teams for this hug, huge game on Wednesday - possibly season defining. It doesn't appear that Lennon will be fit, unfortunately, and not a clue about Ledders but I'll go on the basis that he will be fit to play.

I generally want Jenas to start ahead of Hudd and on Wed it is no different, especially after his cameo against Hull in which he was in my opinion infinitely better than Huddlestone who played the full 90. I think without Lennon's pace in the team JJ is even more vital, as Kranjcar and Modric create space and opportunites for pace, drive and dynamism and Hudd does'nt seem to take advantage of that. Crouch has to play, pretty obviously with Defoe but as long as it's Crouch +1 I'll be happy.

Gomes
Corluka Dawson King Bale
Modric Jenas Palacios Kranjcar
Crouch Defoe

This.

Modric has more pace than Niko and I'd want Modders on the left to try and trouble Carragher's lack of pace as he will probably play right back.

Modric and Bale should look to get forward and test Carragher.

Shame Lennon isn't playing though as you'd expect him to really test Insua or Aurelio (sp?).

Team would be as Shelfside. I have a sneaky feeling that he may play Keane though.
Keane and Crouch against the Pool as they both have something to prove to Benitez.

We still dream of a team of Robbie Keanes!

There's only a few of us left though. ;-)

I wish Lennon could play this game. He'd give Insua the same sort of horrible time he gave Sylvinho at the Lane. Most likely won't be fit though. :-( I'm still hoping, praying, but if he's not;

Gomes

Charlie Daws Bassong Bale

Kranjcar Jenas Palacios Modders

Defoe Crouch

Roger Morgan on SO says that Liverpool are bringing in Kenwyne Jones on loan, possibly before Wednesday..

Ofcourse Bale must start, we need as much pace/width as we can get with Lennon out injured. He'll be up against Carragher and Degen/Maxi, he can deal with them.

I'm a staunch supporter of Huddlestone ahead of Jenas, but Jenas did well when he came on v Hull while Huddlestone was poor. With Lennon out of the side we need someone in the midfield who is capable (and I know he doesn't do it often enough, but he is capable) of bursting beyond the opposition backline, and that is Jenas with the players who remain. Let Palacios sit deep, eat Aquilani alive and play simple passes to Modric, Jenas and Kranjcar who between them should pose enough thread against a Liverpool side who, regardless of injuries, are not about to park the bus at home against us.

Which is exactly why it should be the same apart from Crouch in for Keane.
