I hope we stick with 433. I'm getting tired of the idea we always need an extra defender or extra water carrying midfielder as protection for whatever the opposition has. Our players need to start winning 1 on 1 match ups, we cant have spare man insurance all over the field.

Im not expecting anything vs Chelsea, but we need to ask questions of them. We need our weapons, our ways to make them concerned. Davies and winks have no role in that.

Barney Roney had a nice article in the Guardian comparing Kane and Lukaku and their varying trajectories over the years. He made a good case for Kane having to change his game recently. He's essentially a false nine now, and we should play a system that makes him the best one of those in the league. I.e. with Son and another speedy wing forward in the front 3. That means no more Alli up there.

I really want to see more aggression and ways of turning Chelsea around or forcing them deep. This timid sideways stuff in our own half is tedious.

Amazed at people still picking Alli in the team at number 10. Just what do people see? He does nothing in that position and hasn't for years. It's like sections of the fanbase are still stuck in 2016/2017 and not looking at what Alli is now.
He does nothing in any position !

Dier and Son apparently trained with the rest of the squad yesterday, so:

Lloris
Romero Dier Sanchez
Emerson Reguilon
Skipp Hojbjerg
Dele
Kane Son

Or we're going to use a 352 with the fullbacks offering the width.
Hugo
Sanchez Romero Rodon
Emerson --------------- Reguillon
PEH--Skipp
GLC
Dele - Kane

I would go with this but with Dele and Lo Celso as floating 10s behind Kane. Very similar to how peak Poch setup when Eriksen/Dele we’re 10s in a 343.

Assuming no Dier, Son, Berg, Lucas
The team I would go for even though Nuno definitely wouldn't:

Lloris
Sanchez Romero Rodon
Emerson Højbjerg Skipp Reguilon
Ndombele Lo Celso
Kane
That is a team set up to keep possession in the midfield but would have no one breaking the lines and getting in behind the opposition.

I'd swap Dele for Skipp and push Ndombele into the CM

Lily white rose who’s very reliable said Son and Dier in full training yesterday
I think it needs mentioning how well dier has done so far this season. We haven't conceded a goal while he has been on the pitch and leadership wise he has been vital for us.

He has however been helped by having Skipp and Dele giving him cover and reguillon improving defensively.

I always thought he was criticised a little unfairly last season as he was left isolated with reguillon bombing forward and no one in front of him.

Yes, he didn't have a good one last season, but it was his first playing CB which shouldn't be forgotten.

It'll be interesting when Romero settles who will be the the one to drop out or if we will go three at the back.

If there was ever a game to match up against your opponent this is it.
just like England v Germany in the summer.
3 at the back with wingbacks can neutralise their attacking threat, make us secure defensively and give us a threat out wide as an outlet.

lloris
Sanchez Romero Rodon
Royal Hojbjerg. Skipp Reguilon
Lo celso Ndombele
kane

with dele / bergwijn / son / Lucas the credible subs if fit

Get your suggestions in quick, Nuno might be reading the comments.

Assuming it's true that Son and Dier are back, I think I'd go:

Lloris
Emerson - Sanchez - Dier - Regi
Skipp - PEH
GLC - Ndombele - Son
Kane

If he went ultra cautious against Crystal Palace, i can only imagine what tomorrows team selection will bring.

They are a better team than us, given the hundreds of millions of free money they have at their disposal, we are ravaged by injury, and international players stranded in Croatia because they didn’t do as they’re fucking told, but please THFC, show some balls tomorrow, and go down fighting if we must.

Just for once dare to fucking do will you

Really not looking forward to this game. No confidence that we will play positively or retain any control of the match.

Only good news is, I’ve got a stinking cold and am too sick to attend in person :)

Our troubles started the minute Mou decided to bypass the midfield and turn a possession team to a counter-attacking force. And Nuno for some reason does almost the same. Having Lucas and Bergwijn out might actually help. Play a solid 442 if Son is fit, 451 if not. Fill the midfield with players who can recycle play and control the pace. We will never get anything from this game if Chelsea have 80 percent possession. The defense is too decimated to hold the fort for 90 mins if not properly shielded by the CM. Hopefully we can start Dier and Sanchez who worked so well together in the first three games, plus Skipp, PEH, Ndombele, Dele. And Lo Celso if Son is out. And go from there. Everyone likes free-flowing attacking football but adventurous won't cut it against Chelsea. We only have a chance if we turn this match into a war. Three CBs is not out of the question either, especially with full backs unable to defend. Who knows which of them will be available and in what shape of course.

think we'll match them up:
lloris
sanchez romero rodon
emerson hojbjerg skipp reguilon
ndombele dele
kane

I like this better than what I was trying to put together

Edit: if son is healthy, swap him with ndombele/dele and have him play up top with kane. dier for Rodon if he is healthy as well
