Guardian predicts us to finish 8th behind Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/aug/11/premier-league-2012-13-club-guide

Last season: 4th Title odds: 40-1 Going down: 250-1
Summer update When André Villas-Boas was presented to the media on 11 July he talked of the need to "complete" the squad. With less than a week before the season starts, the Portuguese has not yet added to the positive early summer signings of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen. Jermain Defoe is his only established striker, Luka Modric wants to leave, Scott Parker is a long-term injury casualty and Sandro has not yet trained under him. The new boss could be forgiven for feeling edgy. Emmanuel Adebayor and Leandro Damião are the main targets up front while a top keeper is also being sought.
Key player Gareth Bale, while Jake Livermore and Steven Caulker are developing well.
Achilles heel The dangerous policy of leaving transfers late.
Headline generator Modric's state of mind.
Ins Gylfi Sigurdsson (Hoffenheim, £8m); Jan Vertonghen (Ajax, £8m)
Outs Nico Kranjcar (Dynamo Kyiv, £5.5m); Vedran Corluka (L Moscow, undisc); Steven Pienaar (Everton, £4.5m); Ryan Nelsen (QPR, free), seven players released, including Louis Saha and Ledley King.
Prediction 8th

Most predictions had us finishing 7th last season behind everton and liverpool. Meh.

Exactly.
Gladly, I always felt like we could do fourth. I feel the same this time around.

Stopped reading the first article when I say him tpping Newcastle for the Europa. It's not jsut that I would consider it more prestigious than the CC, and so took issue with him on that, it is just that he reasoning is nonsensical. He feels that AVB will be more likely to target the CC than the Europa - WHY? The Europa is suc a mixed bag that anyone could win it, except for us, of course, because we will be too busy with the CC, so, he's going with Newcastle - WHY? Nonsense.

As for the Guardian fella - that's like the 3 year old with an abacus who never gets past the first rung.

That Grauniad article is more like what they would like to happen than what they think will happen.

As said, Let's wait until August 31st to see who's come and gone before making any predictions

we have given no reason to these pundits or newspaper hacks to suggest we mean business. people can argue we spent 20 million already this summer but the bottom line is that this spurs squad while very decent and some very good players is mentally weak, not enough creativity and still lacks real quality depth.

said it all along taht spurs will rely on massive amounts of luck this season to be anywhere near the top both injury wise and form guide. im praying bale stays fit cos as it stands now so much of our work goes thru him and if some charlie adam fancies it , we cud be in alot of trouble.

3 days before season starts and when we should be absolutely buzzing for it to start i feel fans anyway dont have that vibe. even though im excited its starting up again im far far from confident. can really see it going tits up both management wise and player wise and can actually see newcastle ripping us a new one on saturday.

if i see jenas on pitch its a right off straight away and if u have to add livermore to it then jesus it could get right depressing.
above strikers i was actually hoping for central midfield signing before season starts. again as it stand we look very very weak in there. sandro needs to be at his absolute beast self, just hope he at least plays.

Very true. Look at last season it was all doom and gloom and then we signed Adebayor and Parker. We should sign a striker and sell Modric and sign a replacement before the end of the month
