Yes I know its early and things could change with a little injury news etc but it will be interesting to see who thinks we should go with Defoe and Ade up top on Sunday or match the Arsenal with more a 4-2-3-1 system....in other words what would you do?
They'll probably line up:
Szczesny
Sagna
Mertersacker
Koscielny
Gibbs
Arteta
Song
Walcott
Ramsey
Gervinho
RVP
Now will we see Harry go similar? Our strongest side is probably:
Friedel
Walker
Kaboul
King
Ekotto
Parker
Sandro
Modric
VDV
Bale
Adebayor
Ok a lot of people will have VDV on the right of a three, that's being debated in another thread so lets focus on the game plan for Sunday.
I do think that is our strongest side but serious consideration is required here IMO. Defoe and Adebayor have worked extremely well together, albeit its only two games. The first 25 mins against Liverpool was absolutely sublime and the pairing of Modric and Parker centrally was fantastic. Obviously that would see VDV operating on the right side of midfield.
Instead of talking about what our strongest line up is full stop, I'm curious as to what people think our strongest line up for Sunday at home in the NLD is...
For me Defoe could do very well against the cumbersome Mertersacker and their CB pairing is weak, its begging to be exploited.
The thing is though Arsenal's midfield is better than Liverpool's and how much possession would we concede going 4-4-2 to them? You would also have Walker exposed in the 4-4-2 with VDV roaming quite a bit.
Not sure Harry will implement the 4-2-3-1 here but I would. I would play Defoe on Thursday night and have him on the bench for Sunday and bringing him off the bench could be a master stroke late on.
Going 4-4-2 against them could see us a little out of shape particularly with Ramsey coming deeper, joining Song and Arteta and out numbering us in there. Using the 4-2-3-1 will obviously see VDV doing the same for us and neutralising that threat.
Obviously we are at home and should be concentrating on our strengths but possession will be key, and we have the personnel to use to great effect.
