Got to say this is the 4th time I’ve watched Kostic and I’m not overly impressed, I see his qualities, great ball delivery but he’s not athletic and quick at all.

Im impressed by Kamada from Frankfurt and Bassey from Rangers tonight, albeit I know very little of Bassey.

I’m hoping the 4 games I’ve seen are a very small sample size of Kostic.
Villa bound I believe.

Any back up attacker or one we go for should be a player not at the World Cup. It’s short term thinking I know, but we need fresh legs and minds for when that ends. Those players will be knackered both physically and mentally. I

All this talk of Martinez over CDK....

Although, I confess, I've seen little of Martinez and nothing of CDK, what I've learnt on here is that the former is very much a number 9 while the latter is very versatile.

So while it might be preferable to sign players who are the finished article, like Martinez, it's surely more important still to add players who best fulfil what we need. In that regard, would Martinez be happy playing second fiddle to Kane? Or would Kane be happy being permanently pushed back to a 10? If the answer to either of those is no, then Martinez is not what we need. I'd rather go with the flexibility that CDK would offer.

Exactly this. Imagine next season we have a 4 games in 13 days that looks something like this:

PL: Man City (h)
CL: Ajax (a)
PL: Liverpool (a)
CL: Milan (h)

Wouldn't it be great to rotate between 5 top tier forwards, and have game changing options from the bench every game? If we play 3-4-3 then we need 5 forwards who can inter change. This is what Liverpool (Salah, Mane, Firmino, Jota, Diaz) and Man City (Grealish, Jesus, Foden, Mahrez, Sterling) do.
I absolutely agree with this sentiment but it’s also worth noting that Liverpool filled their weakest positions with big money signings (GK and CB) before they added the quality rotation options in attack. Hopefully we can do it all but it might be tricky. Eriksen + an attacker would cover us, but if we spend £60m on a Martinez or £30m on CdK I assume that would have an impact on the LCB and wingbacks, where we are probably weakest right now.

Conte has said we need two forwards of equal quality so I expect us to go for a really strong forward player rather than unproven/potential type but who knows.

Isn't that's what @Ghost Hardware is saying though. He maybe a great prospect but not (yet) as our main option.

Trust me. I absolutely would NOT question @Ghost Hardware opinion about players outside of the PL.

I really hope that's not how my response came across?

He's been invaluable to me. Outside of PL, or even outside of THFC, I'm absolutely clueless. But he seems to know so much about so many players throughout Europe & has helped many of us learn about players we'd previously had no idea about.

I've got nothing but respect for his opinion, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Surely Bassey would only be of interest to a big spender?

* Apologies everyone.

My man, that makes me feel all sorts of warm and fuzzy. Thank you for the kind words. I wish I knew more tbh, South America and Portugal are huge black holes for me. I’m glad my ramblings aren’t completely obnoxious ?

The implication is that there was no due diligence on Gil, or LoCelso, or Ndombele, or Clarke etc. Is that really true? Surely sometimes players, especially from other leagues or levels, just don't work out how you hoped?
When we signed Gil , watched him on YouTube and the olympics, thought that he would get battered in the premier lge just because of the way he played. Reports from Spanish journalists were that he is as tough as old boots and will just keep getting up and playing on.
He didn’t get that many chances with us to show what he can do. Another year on loan might be what he needs.
Modric wasn’t thought to be strong enough for centre midfield when we signed him and he was put on the left at first. Wenger said he didn’t think he would cope with the PL.

Bastoni would mean we don't need to upgrade on Dier

Lloris
Romero Dier Bastoni

Is sexy
I know it’s complete fantasy levels, but if had that and somehow managed to sell Sanchez and buy Bremer I honestly think we would have the best back line in the league for the next 5 seasons. (Excluding wing backs obv). I honestly that group of 4 players plus a youngster would be world class in a year or two. One can dream.

Who?

Martinez?
Im assuming thats who he means and its by and large true tbh. He's hasn't, as yet, been able to settle in the national team at all. He tends to get way too isolated and ends up running around aimlessly a lot. But i honestly feel thats more to do with Scaloni's tactics then anything. Lautaro is one of those players that plays best when he has close support around him, he's a fox in the box not a target man (although he is very good in the air, surprisingly). Considering how well Conte knows him and how well Lautaro preformed in his tactics, I have zero concerns if we were to get him. Not that he doesn't have weakness, he does and he has things he needs to work on. But with Conte, his skill set, the fact he's still improving etc I think he would be worth the price IF we choose to spend big on a striker.

football.london understands another striker on Spurs' radar is 23-year-old Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, who has netted 18 goals in 31 matches for Napoli this season. Tottenham considered the Nigerian back when he was in Ligue 1 in Lille and he would now come with a big fee after impressing in Italy.

A couple of talented 22-year-olds have also been catching Spurs' eye, as well as most clubs across Europe. Real Sociedad's Swedish striker Alexander Isak and Uruguay international Darwin Nunez, who has netted 34 goals in 41 matches for Benfica this campaign, are both players of interest, while Bayer Leverkusen's 26-year-old Czech Republic striker Patrick Schick has also been watched as he has plundered 24 goals in 31 matches this season.

Also more

Tottenham are looking for a left-sided centre-back to provide competition with Ben Davies, with Paratici understood to be a big admirer of Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni.

Spurs will also look at bringing in another central midfielder this summer, with Harry Winks expected to exit the club in search of regular football and both former Tottenham man Christian Eriksen, available as a free agent this summer, and Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans discussed as potential targets.

Tottenham are set to bring in England international goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer this summer and are also expected to make a move for 21-year-old Middlesbrough wing-back Djed Spence if his loan club Nottingham Forest fail to get into the Premier League. Spurs are also one of a host of clubs looking at Spence's 20-year-old Forest team-mate Brennan Johnson among other young British talents in the Football League.

Weren’t there links that Atletico Madrid may be interested in Lo Celso? Since we all love a good swap deal, maybe Carrasco for Lo Celso makes sense?

Also mentions Jesus and Calvert Lewin, I’d be happy enough with Jesus but please not Calvert lewin

Napoli bought Osimhen for 70m € (+10m in bonuses), and IIRC before his injury they were first in the league. He is worth ~150m for them, would be perfect obviously but impossible for us. Maybe Newcastle could afford him in 2 years or so.

Yeah see, I really like Vickery and he does know his stuff about the South American game but I do sometimes question his ability to judge a player.
He's sung the praises of what turned out to be some real duffers in the past.

I think that maybe he doesn't watch enough of the English game to be able to spot who'd transition well?
I dunno but I'll always listen when he's speaking because he's a knowledgeable and likeable bloke.
