So I make that a £10.5 million profit so far (if you consider Ade's signing on fee was £5million - not sure if it was, mind)

Anyway, does anyone know what our transfer budget before player sales was?

I think over the last 3 seasons we've not spent too much ('net' anyway), so there might be a fair bit saved up

I would guess we could spend another £20m to £30M in this transfer window - but the issue might be wages, as we still have a large squad and will need to move some players out to free up some space.

Bloody hell - our squad's starting to look a bit thin, especially with Kaboul out injured for a while

So that's an £8.4million profit (if GDS was £3million) - possibly more if Hudd goes

Not too sure what to make of that

By my reckoning that leaves us 26 players over the age of 21. Presumably Obika to miss out, though an additional forward, even one of dubious merits, might be more useful than a fourth keeper.

So our 25 man squad options, starting with the obvious ones :

GK: Lloris, Friedel, Cudicini (3)

DEF: Walker, Naughton, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Gallas, Dawson, BAE (7)

MID: Bale, Lennon, Parker, Huddlestone, Sandro, Sigurdsson,, Dembele, Livermore (8)

STR: Adebayor, Defoe, Dempsey (3)

Total 21 leaving 4 other places.

Does AVB include :

1 A 4th goalkeeper - Gomes
2 Either Jenas (who played a lot in pre-season) and/or Bentley (although rumours of Bentley to MK Dons could still happen) and/or Falque (yet to make a real impression on first team)
3 Coulibally - would need registration to play under UEFA rules. Big step up and not sure he is ready for it yet.
4 Obika - would an extra striker (albeit unproven at this level) be useful ?

The other u 21's such as Caulker, Townsend, Carroll, Smith, Parrett etc qualify as u 21's and do not need to be in the squad

Interesting choices for AVB. IMO Jenas is definitely in as one of the 25.

By my reckoning, the only club trained players over 21 are Livermore, Lennon, Bale and Obika, so Obika should at least make the Europa squad.

Plus Huddlestone, so 5 Club trained including Obika (minimum required of 4)

We also have 8 players in the Associaion (but not club) trained category) Dawson, Walker, Naughton, Sigurdsson, Parker, Defoe, Bentley, Jenas - so a total of 13, and we need a minimum of 8.

So we can easily meet all the squad criteria

Edit : At least I think Huddlestone meets Club trained criteria, although loans early in his Spurs career may mean he does not. May need to double check that one !
If I am wrong, agreed Obika may as well be in Europa League Squad (otherwise we only have 24 players) with Huddlestone joining the Dawson, Walker, Naughton, Sigurdsson, Parker, Defoe, Bentley, Jenas list still making it 13 Association Trained (Home Grown in Premiership terminology)

so 17 players have either been sold or gone out on loan in this window

Pretty sure Hudd is just association trained mate. The other club trained players would be Rose and Dawkins but obviously they're out on loan.

Given how short we are of club trained players the decision to sell Button for a pittance looks even more bizarre.
