Any chance we'll see a few youngsters on the bench for these upcoming matches?

I'm hoping Mundle and Devine actually see some game time.

Lots of injuries and a thin, unbalanced squad. But what is really worrying is that we got into this position despite having hardly any U21 players out on loan.
Maybe that’s the problem. Most of the older players must realise they will be on their way shortly. If they were up to it they would be out on loan.. just going through the motions.

U21/PL2 football is a graveyard for players still under contract but who don't show enough for lower league clubs to take them on loans. The U18s who are good enough to get to play against older boys/men are the only ones who really benefit from this system.

It really just feels a bit pointless.

If we didn’t have these ridiculous transfer windows, clubs would just carry around 18 players plus a few youth.instead they stockpile 25 players and then try to keep them all happy. In the good old days if we had a few injuries we could go and buy players to plug the gap. It was blocked around the end of March to stop clubs trying to affect the end of the season.
don’t know what the answer is, I cannot see that there is one as we now have 9 on the bench every game so allowing for injuries not many senior players left to play some sort of reserve football.
I’m surprised that the transfer windows have never been challenged. Is it not a restraint of trade when you cannot change your job location .
when you look at the likes of Alfie Whiteman you wonder what he is playing at. Just a keeper to use in training. Only had one loan. What’s the point.

Agree about going through the motions, but I think most are good enough for careers in EFL. Since Sherwood left we just don’t seem to have anyone making those phonecalls.

U15 player, Luca Williams-Barnett made his England U15 debut and scored in England’s 2-2 with USA

its not the right time to be blooding yougsters
Don't disagree but when is the right time? I can't help but feel is Devine had come on at Everton rather than Lucas his enthusiastic energy would have moved us up the pitch and he would have been less likely to see red. Brighton are playing with teenagers in their starting line-up surely we can bring one or two off the bench

perhaps and the benefit is the crowd would be onside with them but with the general level of performances from the others its so difficult for a youngster to come in

Perfect time I think.
Nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Sure, the crown might be a bit toxic so on that basis I'd maybe think about giving it a miss tomorrow but I'd certainly be up for taking these last few games as a chance to blood some of them.

Indiana? Indiana? I'm guessing he's is a younger brother of Rafferty Pedder who was with us until the summer. I've honestly never heard of him but a little digging reveals that he's an U14 so this new 2 year deal takes him up to the end of school at which point a decision will be made on whether to offer him a scholarship.

I disagree - reasons being the step up to the first team is a huge step - kids coming into a side that is struggling makes it even more difficult for them to show their abilities - pushing a boy into the predicament in which we find ourselves its even more difficult for them to show their skillset- ideally you want them coming into a settled side to give them the best opportunity to shine.

You can argue that football isn't a perfect world and that a kid could come in and grasp the opportunity and if they don't they probably aren't good enough anyway. Also that in adversity sometimes you can find a rough diamond but for me its just not ideal and to put a kid into the current environment with the undoubted pressure that goes with it would be a mistake. You could say when is right? I would say do it slowly and bring them into a side with a little confidence

Oh, it's certainly easier to come into a well-functioning team but a young player can on the flipside add hunger and tenacity to a stale squad. A case in point is Pochettino's team with youngins' in 2014/15.

Don’t know about that. Kane and Bentelab were thrown into the deep end by Sherwood, and that was a pretty toxic time. Then they and Mason (and Rose and Dele and Dier) helped get us going again under Poch in what wasn’t exactly a settled side.
