Sometimes you have to.

Cant complain.

However, I hope Ange never makes subs like that again, we had finally for control of it and those subs took it away.
But those were the subs everyone was crying out for at HT.

View from the south stand:
  • One of our worst team performances in ages, no energy at all
  • Movement was non-existent at times and gave us little option on the ball
  • VDV is class and saved us from a hammering
  • The whole team hates Werner. He had so much space and clearly the beating of his man. So many times the ball over the top pass was on to him and we didn’t do it. It was so obvious and so frustrating.
  • Worst game from Maddison in a Spurs shirt and almost as bad from Bentancur.
  • PEH came on and almost cost us several times
  • Johnson was poor/weak but took his chance well
  • Sonny was a different class and we immediately looked a better team with him on
  • Udogie was injured, hence the sub was changed last second (Skipp was coming on but swapped for Ben Davies)
  • Their time wasting was ridiculous and they got what they deserved from it
Doesn’t sound like you had a good day as nearly everybody was a disappointment to you. 😄

Way too early too conclude that. Bents is still working his way back into form, it’s not a fit with Maddison issue just a he isn’t at his best issue
I’m not saying they never can but at the moment they can’t. They both end up on each other’s toes. I think Bentancur is brilliant but if Maddison is going to be first choice then the best balance is Biss, Sarr and Maddison. For me, of course - you obviously disagree

Was the consensus on here really that different? We were poor. I thought far poorer than the other home games this season where we lost.

Don't get me wrong, I was definitely na-na-na-naing after the final whistle but we didn't play well at all.

Have to admit that it is an entirely different perspective watching a game at the stadium as opposed to the TV.

I don't think we were great by any means, but I don't think we were poor either. Somewhere in the middle.

I travel to Spurs once a season to see a game live and it usually is a tight affair, my recent ones were Chelsea last season, and Bournemouth and Leipzig during Jose’s tenure. What a game today, I love when a goal comes after building pressure, the emotions were pretty high right before Sarr’s goal. And then a stoppage time winning goal. What a day, what a night. With that sunset behind the South Stand, I couldn’t have wished for a better visit.

Only caught the second half. Some recurring themes from this season - a little too lax with possession when a player is facing our own goal, struggle to break down low block teams, very good when there is space in behind the back line and we exploit with quick interplay on the break to exploit.

A couple of players look like they need a little break/refocus. I do think we lack clear, quick thinking in the final third when we are not playing the ball into space - too many crosses hit the first man, not enough give and gos, and I think Werner showed he is useful but Son just looked so much more lethal with his intent, glad to have him back
I was thinking that Son would have been great to bring on at CF with Werner cutting inside and Son peeling off as there was space was in behind.

He takes defenders out a bit better than Richy.

Maybe for another game though.

FUN FACT:
Watch Estupinan on the winning goal -- he intentionally holds up to try to catch Sonny offside, turns to look at the linesman to raise his hand, realizes it's too late, and then is inches from intercepting the pass.

If he'd *just played the ball*, he would've been there in time and snuffed out the goal.

Yeah it always annoys me when defenders stick their hands up rather than actually trying to win the ball back.

We seem to have spells.

Even earlier in the season we had some tough spells and better ones.

Burnley A - Poor first 10, took over after that.

United H - Started well then had a shaky 20 mins or so, then finished the half strong and dominanted second half.

Arsenal A - Struggled to play out for first 30 or so but grew into the game. Were much better second half but last 10 petered out a bit.

Bournemouth A - Started really well. Scored and had a few chances but then had a quiter period either side of HT. They then started to threaten a bit but we managed to get the second to kill their hopes and finished well.

Perfectly normal for a team who are still learning all the tactical aspects of a coach who wants high intensity/high concentration to attack - these players are going to get lost in a game at times. Especially when the oppositon make adjustments to stop us.

Even more so when players have been missing and are either rusty or have missed out on building synergy with one another.

I noticed some moments today where players seemed to be left on the ball to figure stuff out alone instead of multiple options being created.

It requires incredibly high levels of concentration to do it consistently.

Also one bad move or pass can destroy confidence in one another (not passing to that player there again).

Then you have to consider our rivals have been making a lot of tactical fouls and putting us off.

This takes a long time to Iron out.

Klopp had persistent issues with concentration levels and leaving space in his early reign.

Takes a while to drill it in and normally comes in phases.

It's really weird that the line about why De Zerbi wasn't there today was that he was recovering from dental surgery. They just said it again on MotD. He wasn't there because he was suspended, which we knew was the case as soon as he got booked in their previous game.
