Ok, many are in a post transfer window depression but there was a time (before the window came in) when Spurs went out and made some fantastic player signings. Which players did you really anticipate coming to us? A couple I remember were Steve Archibald and our Argentenians Ossie and Ricky.
I had gone up to the 1980 Celtic v Rangers Cup Final and the possibility of Archibald coming to Spurs was very topical. From what I remember fans of both sides told me he wasn't an out and out forward...lacked pace...couldn't head the ball and wouldn't score many goals for us.......quite pleased they were wrong on the last
count :)
With the two Argentenians the World Cup had hardly finished when suddenly here they were coming to play for us in England. The media build-up was immense (for the time) and I think we palyed and got turned over by Villa first game at WHL. In spite of that I was really proud of Spurs in the ground breaking way they took the risk and brought them in. Great times.

Feeling guilty now, I know I shouldn't post in this area. Hey f*** it, loving it. Loving it.

Oh, I really want to answer the OP properly but really don't think I should while we lurk in SC ITK. We we all get punished for trespassing???

Yes. Yes, you will.

I'm not telling you when or where, but you're all in a world of trouble now. Try not to think of what will happen when A&C and I track you down and make use of the Special Tranny Disco Nandox on you.

Sleep well tonight.

But putting that unpleasantness to one side...

Klinsmann for me. Grief from mates for him being a diver, but also envy that we'd got him. That goal and dive in the first game against Sheffield Wednesday made the most perfect start imaginable. Always loved Jurgen.

And there was me with a quiet weekend planned, now I have something to look forward to!!

And now that we are back on track and in Spurs Chat...the one player who stands out for my excitement and anticipation was Berbatov. I had been following a lot of German football at the time and been lucky to see quite a bit of young Dimitar prior to him joining us. I already knew how talented he was, the goals he could score, etc. What I wasn't prepared for was that he would form such a prolific partnership with Robbie Keane of all people. I will honestly never work out how Alex Ferguson managed to waste a player like Berbatov.

Modric. Mainly because id never heard of him until on the night we signed him, my geordie mate who I lived with was getting a massive erection about them signing him and was showing me endless youtube videos.

After I'd made my way to bed, thought I'd just check the site and that Bam! (the old fork in the eye)...Luka to the lane.

Of course I ran downstairs as fast as my legs could take me to carry out the obligatory WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH in his face

Klinsmann, Bale, Dos Santos and VDV.

Klinsmann just came out of the blue and I was young enough to believe special things were going to happen. They did from Klinsmann and Sheringham but defensively we were too weak and naive to really compete.

Bale was a player I was certain was going to Utd. When he signed I believed we'd made a massive stride forwards.

Dos Santos. I believed the hype and wanted to believe he only wasn't playing for Barca because of Ronaldinho. Soemtimes I get things wrong.

VDV was a signing that I was sure would make an immediate impact. I understood signigns like that don't come around too often for Spurs.

3 out of 4 isn't bad.

Martin Peters, just a shame it meant losing Greavsie as part of the deal, Gary Lineker and of course Ossie and Ricky :)

Just missed out on Ossie and Rickys arrivals, I was too young. For me the first piece of excitement was Gazza, I couldn't believe we had got him, especially as Utd were sniffing around. Then Linekar, Klinsmann, Ginola and most recently Rafa.
