Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has revealed the club's medical staff told him it would be "impossible" to feature in the World Cup group stages due to injury - only for Argentina's medical staff to dismiss the issue entirely. The former Atalanta centre-back was left sweating on his fitness ahead of the tournament in Qatar but he ended up starting all but one of Argentina's seven matches on their way to glory in Doha.

I don't think International staff have the same care and consideration for players as their clubs. If a player gets crocked they just draft in the next in line. Kulusevski recently picked up an injury that kept him out for weeks playing in a pointless friendly, and not being subbed off when he should have been. LoCelso always came back injured after playing for Argentina. There's no financial considerations for International teams and they generally have dozens of players to fall back on if one breaks down and they'll therefore take much bigger risks on a players fitness.

That may be true but in this case their medical team were surely correct as he was able to play in the group stages and the rest of the tournament.

Coupled with the fact he’s looked better and fitter since returning from the WC compared to before he left…

And was then unable to play for us once the PL restarted, as a consequence of playing at the World Cup. :cautious:

As someone else has already pointed out, Romero himself has said this claim about our medical team is untrue.

But the story was that we told him it was impossible for him to play in the group stage and he did. What happened after is irrelevant.

All moot if it's BS though
