Back on topic - Would love Modric to come to the lane, but also how about getting this one in too, if City are after him?

"Sven-Goran Eriksson wants to sign Werder Bremen's Brazilian midfielder Diego for Manchester City for £10m."

We know ramos likes to play with flair and attacking prowess so a number 10 type would fit well, out of curiosity, did Sevilla have a no.10 type? i cant think of one!

Yeah Kanoute did and Berbatov does play a bastardised version of a no.10 role. It's essentially a CF thats given creative freedom to operate anywhere between his own CM and the oppostions back line. This is balanced by using a second striker to stretch the back line
Ramos has favoured a skillfull striker dropping deep compared to an attacking cm pushing on becasue of the use of wingers with great delivery. Kanoute outscored his further forward teammate becasue he arrived later attacking the ball in the air or on the ground. The theory being an AM further forward wouldn't quite have the same clinical edge.

Now if Berb goes and we get modric for example... lots of peeps will claim they are right and we've gone to a 433 or a 451.. but it'll still be closer to a 442 than either of those formations.

I would love Diego at the Lane - all those years after Hoddle tried to sign him as a precocious kid. But Diego is currently behaving as badly as Berba's agent, one minute saying he wants to go to Real Madrid:

Then, a few breaths later, saying he wants to stay at Bremen:

Etc.

DC_Boy - you're making mischief...

Fwiw I hope this doesn't degenerate into a "Fredi is the Messiah" versus "Fredi is lazy cack" thread, but it may well provide the ultimate truth of Alan Shearer's favourite saying: "it's a game of opinions".

terrible ain't I - ok I wuz bored :) but I starts a thread about Modric, next thing I've got people telling me Kanoute's better than Crouch - well what's a man to do :)

actualy the ole 'opinions one' is one of my fave usages on here

A man should make mischief every now and then....

OK - so on topic, I would like Modric at WHL, and if we switched to a 4-2-3-1, he could play probably as either the creative deep lying CM or the ACM.

Playing Modric as one the wide AMs is an interesting option. Ramos liked his Sevilla wingers to go down the line and cross - ie stay wide rather than cut inside. From what I've seen, I'm not sure Modric is pacy enough to play as that kind of winger.

However, Wenger has also been linked with Modric, and I suspect he would convert him into a wide midfielder in the fashion of Rosicky (who was an ACM or creative CM before joining the goons). My suspicions are that Ramos would want a player with the vision and creative passing skills of Modric in a central rather than a wide midfield position.

To be honest most of this debate has gone right over my head - as I don't know much about Modric - or how Seville play(ed) -or the various formations talked about - but fair play to those who do - I very rarely get involved in the deeper tactical stuff, cos I don't know enough to comment sensibly, especially with regard to Continental football

anyway carry on chaps - I'm sure there's lots of excellent stuff being talked about :)

I will remind peeps tho - so far JR has bought a Scotsman a Welshman A 'German' Brazilian (who really hasn't impressed me one bit) and an Englishman - and I'm not sure how many of the Ramos & Seville aficiandos would have predicted any of them

Yes we have had this debate before, but anyway I thought I'd bring it up again - fact is this is England, this is the Prem, Ramos may well have his team play in a very different way now - but hey what do I know :)
