I don't think it's racist. It's much worse than that - it's 'banter'.

In all seriousness it's an invasion of personal space, and I wouldn't be happy being grabbed by complete strangers and man-handled like a puppet. I don't think wearing a Spurs shirt is a free ticket for that sort of behaviour. Thinking that is overstepping the mark is not the same as being offended on their behalf. I just wouldn't react in such a friendly way if someone tried that with me. They had no way of knowing how he would react so it's basically a bit of a thuggish attitude of 'we think this will be funny so we're just going to do it anyway and fuck the fact that we don't know them'. Would it be 'banter' if two blokes did that to your girlfriend at a game? I'd imagine a lot of people would wonder what the hell they were doing.

Then again I guess it's a little different at a football match where it's hardly uncommon for strangers to jump on/hug each other when celebrating a goal. Still, to actually lift someone up and wave their arms around is pretty arrogant and patronising even if it isn't racist or malicious.

Yes. It shows a lack of basic courtesy really, which is bad enough without having the project all other kinds of malevolent emotions the parties must have been ruled by. That's the modern world though.

The majority of sane people are forever trapped between a horde of unthinking mannerless oafs and humourless authoritarian nutters.

Neither party gives a tuppeny fuck what the people involved actually feel or think.

Blimey, this is still going?

I'm amazed that it's an actual discussion. Nothing like the Internet to make you realise how opinions differ. Can be really enlightening and sobering

You'll never change an anonymous person's mind online, but God bless @Mullers for trying

I'm done here, I've said what I wanted to say and I am pretty sure that the thread will be locked before it gets to 42 pages.
Thank you all for an interesting discussion, tata.
