Tottenham have Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in their sights as Ange Postecoglou’s squad starts to take shape ahead of the new season.

Spurs are looking at midfield options as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been targeted by Atletico Madrid and clubs in Germany, with Gallagher emerging as a contender to compete for a place under Postecoglou.

No way Gallagher is worth anything like 50m. Half that is about right but I wouldn't see him as a regular starter personally.

Postecoglou loves a goal scoring midfielder and so far we’ve only one in Maddison.

£50m for a player who I would expect to be behind Maddison (£40m), Bentancur (£17m) & Bissouma (£25m) in the pecking order.

While it shouldn't really matter whether his transfer fee is higher / lower than existing players, as the market changes and our other recent CM signings were all running down their contracts, but £50m seems a lot for a squad player when we have other priorities and are reportedly about to spend less on a new starting CB.

He'd be a useful squad player providing depth for two of the three CM roles in Ange's system, but he's unable to play in the position where we are most lacking - CDM.

We’ve got Bissouma and Skipp and Postecoglou only plays one, technically we’ve got N’Dombele too.

Its 50 mil to us only I'm guessing, London rivalry surcharge. also, he's very young and home grown so the potential is worked into the price.

For £50M, shouldn't we first get our primary centre-back target, Tapsoba, and then worry about the midfield later?

I was assuming Bissouma would primarily play as a box-to-box CM, not as a CDM. Although he played both roles a fair bit for Brighton, he seemed at his best given the additional freedom that the the box-to-box role allowed him. Playing as the deepest CM in our team under Conte seemed to really stifle him.

£50m is surely for a first team starter or a player with an extremely high ceiling. I'm not convinced Gallagher comes under that category.

If we're going to splash out big on a player, surely a centre back is the necessity.
