I'd ask another question. Why would you bother to gain every single coaching badge except the pro manager one if you never intended to coach? Surely the absence of the pro-manager badge is evidence that he was not an aspiring manager, rather than not an aspiring coach? I'd suggest that the last few weeks have borne out the suggestion that, rather than not being a competent coach, it is in the other specifics of management that he has come up short. This is something I cannot fathom.
Why would you not, as an aspiring coach, move heaven and earth to achieve the highest possible coaching qualifications as soon as you reasonably could?
You have to ask questions about someone who simply hasn't bothered.
Alex Inglethrope (former Youth coach now at Liverpool), Chris Ramsey and John McDermott (head of our Academy) all have their Pro License.I'd ask another question. We would be mad not to have a deal in place before the WC starts (if we haven't already).I think it's unlikely that Sherwood will get to keep his job, and that van Gaal appears a shoe-in. But I haven't seen many consider the effect of Holland's World Cup on van Gaal's stock. He could go from hero to zero if he oversees a fractious campaign with an early exit. It's not unknown to happen to the Dutch. Or they could win it, and he'll get better offers, including from the Premier League. Given the state we're in, maybe Sherwood is the only one mad enough to take it on.
Louis enthroned on Bastille Day?
How history will have come full circle!
Experience? Pretty much anyone on this site could have finshed in the top 2 or 3 with Porto. And there's Chelsea where he ended up doing the same thing as here, alienating most of the players and playing baffling teams. Tactics? He seemed to like passing the ball backwards and sideways a lot. Did that tactic yield much in the way of goals? Did Liverpool play that way today?
Sherwood had an apprenticeship under Harry, our best manager in recent times. He worked closely with all the teams, especially younger ones. Many in and aeound the club said that Sherwood would go far within the game. Philosphy? What was AVB's then? At least with Sherwood he believes in promoting the youth. Something AVB never did.
I find the arrogance of you laughable - "Sherwood had no right to get the job". Who said you were in a position to decide that? Levy offered and he accepted. Undoubtedly too early but it wasn't Sherwood's fault that AVB was a failure.
If Spurs recruited Rogers they would have hounded him out after his first season for finishing 7th!
Fairplay to the Liverpool fans & club for sticking by their man - shame THFC lacked the balls to do the same.
I think that as coaches go there are a small handful who are truly visionary, and the rest are followers. Of the truly visionary ones, only a small % have the communication skills to go with it, and an even smaller % who encounter the circumstances they need to show it. Of the followers, some are bright enough to spot a good idea when they see it and to make it their own. If they're really smart they take a lot of ideas from different people but again they also need the communication and man-management skills to go with it. In my opinion, Sherwood has shown enough to suggest that he does at least have sound tactical ideas, even if he can't be said to be particularly innovative or inventive, but I think his real weaknesses lie elsewhere. Perhaps he was damned right from the start with an impossible job - his handling of Ade has been excellent, as has his development of Nabil. I think he's really fallen short in the subtler aspects of how to get his message across, inspire a full range of players and in how he has managed the individual coaching of specific situations, situations that are independent of tactics and strategy yet keep repeating themselves time after time. Still not good enough, IMO; might still have potential, though I'd question his presence of mind at times and his ability to handle the job even if he began to get the other things right.
One thing's for sure, whoever takes over if indeed he goes, there's no magic bullet around. It's not just a case of picking the right team and telling them this that or the other formation; there's some serious work all round needs doing left right and centre.
I really don't want to know. I don't think I can take any more!Ps you think that's all bad you should see his list of players Tim wants....
I promised myself never to post again on here but 1 point of yours i just cant leave.....

I'm a bit mystified that you won't post mate. Granted you got some grief on here but I thought you had thicker skin than that. We've all had a bit of stick on here, from time to time, but you suck it up and move on.
I think I speak for the majority when I say that you're a highly respected poster whose contribution is valued, particularly as it gives many of us a valuable insight into what is happening within the club.
Don't be a stranger JJ, it's a fact of life that there will be those that will dislike what you have to say, just as there will be those who appreciate it.
The fact is that there are more in the latter camp than in the former.
I was critical of JJ because of his last post, but I like most of his posts, I respect his opinion and I value his info. No disrespect to JJ, but not posting anymore because of a few people attacking your posts is kinda immature.
By the way, has Sherwood been sacked yet? No? Oh well, hopefully I wake up tomorrow to see Levy has fired him.
You got it nailed on!!!.......Spurs have no patience and perseverance to see through a project.
AVB had so many limitations and along with many new players coming in last season.....he had
practically about 11 players, who are new to the club (7 new foreign signings, Holtby, Vert, Lloris, Siggy), 2 returning players on long loan, 2 returning players on long injury. I bet no one can integrate these players within
1 season successfully. AVB went back to basics and get the team to play more as a team. The team had a system and structure and they were very difficult to beat earlier in the season. But many of the Supporters were "hunting"
for AVB heads and saying that Spurs were playing boring football....actually if anyone were to follow Spurs, especially lately, they would find that some of the Home Grown players, the likes of Dawson, Walker, Defoe, Lennon, Townsend have "limited footballing brain".......this is one of the reason why Spurs are playing "boring"
football.....football that seems "move slowly" to our attackers. Players at the top level, needs to be intelligent with or without the ball.....running into space, behind the defence without the ball.....stretching the opponent defense.
AVB needed to integrate the new expensive players asap, but he didn't have them all at once.As you mentioned, Liverpool stick with B Rodgers last season and they had a similar issue with Spurs this season under AVB. Liverpool were able to score last season, due to the brilliance of Suarez. Suarez is a World Class player and he is very much already gotten used to BPL pace last season. They bought in Sturridge last year January, he did not take long to show his potential. Spurs unfortunately, sold a World Class player this summer....and the rest of the new highly touted players was and are still adjusting to life in BPL. I am still confident that, if AVB were still at the club, Spurs would be playing a more progressive football now.....and then next season will be when Spurs would be "flying" with beautiful football......But it is all Water Under the Bridge now.....Spurs are not patient and allow a small setback to derail the work in progress.
Im hoping that LVG get the Job and get the basics right again during his first year........Foundation must always be rooted firmly for the team to grow properly to its full potential. Once the foundations are firmly plated and basic footballing are good, then comes the flair. I still believe that all the 7 new foreign signings will come good under the correct head coach. They are all intelligent footballers and with the right motivation, would be able to "soar"...in their level of playing. COYS!!!
I played under Alex Inglethorpe. Easily the best coach I've experienced. Another master stroke from Rodgers to get him up to Anfield. He knew Inglethorpe was a top coach and it's no surprise Liverpool under 21s are top of the league.Alex Inglethrope (former Youth coach now at Liverpool), Chris Ramsey and John McDermott (head of our Academy) all have their Pro License.
