Haha, don't try and @THFCSPURS19 me, and do that fucking lame thing of "oh you can't suggest anybody better, wot a bluddy cop out". Seemingly realistic strikers that we've been linked with and that I'd take ahead of Long:

  1. Inaki Williams (arguably realistic)
  2. Laurent Depoitre
  3. Saido Berahino
  4. Sandro
  5. Yedder (who we were linked with today)
  6. Dembele
  7. Berardi
  8. Embolo
  9. Baboucar
  10. Perez
I'd also take absolutely nobody ahead of him, because signing players like him is what got us into the problem a couple years ago of being lumbered with mediocre deadwood.
Are you fucking starting again m8?

I'm not anti Levy at all actually but he does have a tendency to rub a lot of his negotiating adversaries up the wrong way. It's something I think he could improve on a lot which would serve the club well in the long run.

Like how?

I'd say a lot of league chairmen have an ego and negotiate hard to get the best deal for their club. The way you put it, made it sound that it is all Levy.

I think Long has been really unfortunate in his career to have been at clubs with average expectation and quality...

I think him and Austin would've fit what we've needed this season..
Not amazing players.. but put them in a side that create chances and who knows.. currently they've both had careers where they've had to make their own chances..
I hear a lot of QPR fans say that Austin can't play loan striker role.. but in a team that are playing the whole match in their 3rd that would be very difficult for him..

It's similar to Shane Longs career too.. he's always been 2nd or 3rd choice at mediocre to relegation sides..

If there was any chance in getting him I'd absolutely take it.. he's a fighter that (can) score goals..
I'm starting to think that there are no plans for a top class talent coming in.. maybe berahino but think he'll be more likely an addition to the behind the striker role.

Long would be perfect for us as a back up to Kane very underrated and a good fit for our style. Very doubtful it would happen though for a number of reasons

Reason number 1 being that Shane Long is shit and nowhere near good enough.

He's having a purple patch but he's been inconsistent for most of his career. He's not what we need as competition for Kane.

Your opinion not mine.
He looked less than shit when he terrorised Arsenal defence the other week. I am not saying he would come here and be a world beater but as a back up and impact sub (the role any striker we sign would be) I can't think of many better that we could realistically get,be happy with the back up role and hit the ground running straight away

He probably won't score us 20 a season (tbf he's a Tipperary hurler) and perhaps he's not as polished as some of the guys we want but Shane Long will give his all for the shirt and is not without skills. Considering the type of game we play and the job he'll be employed to do then Shane Long isn't a bad shout. Been way too long since we've had an Irish lad at Spurs ;)

He comes out above Kane in all but one of those, maybe we should swap them.

Not like you to be facetious Spurrific. That's not what I was saying at all. As a back up striker, with experience of the league, who wouldn't break the bank, he would give us a lot of what we're looking for.

I'm honoured that you've noticed I'm all about that facetiousness. I know that's not what you were saying, and I'm not saying you were. What I am saying is that those stats are useless because they pretty much unanimously show Long outperforming Kane and Kane is a vastly superior player.

He's Shane Long though, the football snobs won't stand for it.

I suppose it is quite snobby for me to not want us to bloat our squad with players that I don't rate.

I just don't rate him, nothing to do with where he's from, who he plays for, or how bulbous his head is - it's all to do with watching him play and not liking what I see. If we were to sign him, which we won't, I would fully support him and hope for him to do well. Doesn't mean I have to lie and fake a positive opinion of somebody on the sole basis that we've been linked with them.

His head is beautiful.
