Well I remember Dier in a 2 and it was horrible, and Romero hasn't shown he can really play that role for any length of time either. We've deliberately gone out and bought so that we have 2 players for every position Conte has made this a priority. To change formation and still achieve this now would mean bringing in another 5-6 players instead of just the 2 to make that a reality for 3-4-3.
I'm not sure what baffles me more - that @punkisback actually thinks that playing a back 4, under Conte, with our current crop of players, is even close to being a potentially good idea or that you continue to respond to him as if there is any remote validity in what he's saying ;)

I am just of the thinking that we have Talent up top that can be utilised better and weekends in the WB spots in comparison to his previous teams

Lloris

Emerson
Romero
Dier
Sess

bentancur
Bissouma
Deki or other Attack minded AM signing

Deki or Richarlison
Kane
Son

I just think it makes sense to get our dangermen on the pitch. I feel in our wingback system compared to say his old chelsea formation the wingers acted like no10 and the wingbacks like traditional outside wingers. Our players are not really built like that, other than Deki who comes inside and acts creative. Would also potentially mean replacing dier

A lot I could go into but I just think this gives us a more fluid approach.
I get your point dude, but really puts our two full backs in a defensive pose with limited attacking options - 3 at the back all day long, woth your wing backs attacking and defending.

we’d invite attacking teams to overload our two full backs with the above.

With respect, there's no point even vaguely contemplating this - that train has left the station, got to the other station, gone back in garage, been decommissioned, replaced, upgraded and replaced with spaceships.

Everything in the squad is geared to playing 3 at the back
No completely thanks for putting it so tactfully. I agree that train has left the station, but I think it’s fun to do this constructively on a forum.

4-3-3 would be madness with our personnel other than a one off tactical change late in a match or something. If we got SMS it would either be a 3-5-2 option, or 3-4-3 tactical gamble against weaker teams or vs bus parking.

I feel the same way. Really think that to get the best out of our team 433 is the way, the wing backs aren’t good enough. This will also allow us to play SMS

The way we got overloaded for Reece James’ goal coupled with last season September to November makes me delighted we play with a 3 at the back system!

I think it’s also up to the wingers to track back attacking FB our one’s identity don’t.

Speak to Argentinian fans and they’ll tell u Romero is better in a back 2 however all are other cbs are woeful in a back 2.

OK but how many games has he played in a two against real quality opposition? He's still a very small sample size to say he's better in a 2.

Edit: He's played in 11 matches for Argentina and I'd question the quality of Peru and Paraguay(3 games) compared to what he'd face every week in the Prem or CL.

I'm not saying he can't do it, but 8 games against decent opposition isn't enough to judge him on surely?

Lots of interesting chat about formations and how this might impact on the reality of us signing SMS, but given he has Dembele like ball retention, a range of effective passing and skills, I don’t see how he doesn’t work in a 343- pair him with Skipp or Bissouma- a light footed busy fucker basically, and why wouldn’t it work? The only player pairing him with that could be problematic is Bentancur in that neither are shielding midfielders, but that’s what flexibility means. And even this isn’t an insurmountable pairing issue in that they could both be on together when creativity is needed against the bus parkers

Definitely a small sample size but the two games I watched against Italy and Brazil in big games he dominated. We’ve all seen how good he is and his best attributes is his reading of the game and timing which is key in a back 2, there’s no signs he would struggle in a 2 but the overall point still stands that we would get badly exposed with a back 4 because of the other options.

Read all the pages.

Still don't know why this thread was bumped and why we are talking about him.

I don't get it, what has changed? 90 million euro won't be spent on SMS, have they lowered their price or why did this resurface now?
The Mirror reported around £38m today. I assume that is what has everyone popping.

I live in Argentina and have watched all of Cuti's games for Argentina and there's no way he's better in a back 2.

Probably not enough for it’s own thread (yet), but this account (second tweet) is very good for Ukrainian players. Would be an excellent signing.
