Who would of thought that Vega of all people would go on to make such a success in trading? Hats off to the guy.

Vega gave me some advice on my investments but, like all financial gurus, cautioned me that the value of my investment could go down as well as up and so I might get back less than I originally invested...

"No shit, Ramon, I said. "We paid nearly £4m for you and got f**k all in return".

Ah, how we laughed.

Well, I did anyway.

Mr truth hurts, London, United Kingdom, 19 hours ago

The worst Spurs defender ever.......followed closely by fazio and chriches...

Guessing he never watched Kevin Scott, David Kerslake or Paolo Tramezzani play

My memory is a little hazy from so far back, so perhaps someone here could pull up a clearer memory or two. :)

Wasn't he quite effective at first? But gradually became prone to mistakes and errors? The reason I ask, is that I seem to remember he'd had a good Euro '96 - and at that time was a sufficient centre back - rated by most...I also seem to remember him popping up with goals - and then, the career slip happened with us (i.e. wouldn't be the first time we killed a players career lol).

Nicola Berti often gets slated as being a poor player - but he was a big part of Inter before he came to us.

Though like I say, my memory of that time isn't great. I'm just wondering if many players fell victim to a very poor time in our history - rather than it being about their ability itself.

He was never a good defender for us

He did chip in with the odd headed goal mind

But always a bit of a liability at the back, same can be said of 90% of our centre backs since I've been old enough to watch the club

King, Campbell, Mabbutt stand out as the only truly good centre halves I've seen the club have and the rest ranging from a few decent down to the outright terrible with Vega not even being the near the worst of the bunch (which is saying a lot)

Very true. When you think back - very, very few actually stand out. I was impressed with Naybet's first season with us - think he helped King a lot. But like you say they're few and far between.

I'm pleased for the guy, but that's not a particularly interesting? I mean seriously, it's a bit self promotional isn't it?

Hardly different to picking a random fund manager and saying "he earns lots of money, yay"

Still, he seems like a nice guy so good luck to him - as long as he's not one of those tax dodging types!

There is several ex-players of ours that went in to finance though some of them were ex youth players like Ranieri

Naybet? Woodgate? Popescu? But I get your point.

Naybet was an excellent teacher for king, woodgate was good but never really consistently showed his best for us due to injury etc and popescu played or as a dm and was only around for a season

I don't think any of them would be on the top level for us, they'd been at the high end of the range I spoke about after - same for gallas

Whatever you think of his ability, as I recall he never let us down for effort and lets be honest, he wasn't playing in one of our best teams was he.
He is always positive when asked about Spurs too.
