Focus for the Huddersfield game has to be goals, obviously take care of the 3pts but with the four teams so close on points at this stage of the season we could do with inflating our GD.
With all due respect, fuck you, Lighty. I'm not asking anyone else to feel the same as me, but in any given season the things that make me happiest are:
1) Winning something
2) Finishing above Arsenal (which is not winning something)
3) Qualifying for the CL (which is also not winning something)
I recognise that I'm in a minority in feeling like this (probably a tiny minority), but I'm not going to have a personal go at all the people who enjoy the pleasures of CL football (which I also like, of course) more than the highs and lows you get through our rivalry with Arsenal, and I don't feel I'm going out of my way to expect the same courtesy back from people who don't share my view.
Trust me, on SC that is not an unpopular opinion. Try being in my shoes where I would genuinely prefer us to finish 5th and Arsenal to finish 6th than us to finish 4th and Arsenal to finish 3rd: then you'll know what unpopularity feels like, young padawan.
Really hope the players don’t go in with this mindset, just primes the banana skin.
This surley has to be a joke??
Why does it have to be a joke? He’s a Spurs fan. He hates Arsenal. It really is that simple.
People rating his posts on this as WTF is bewildering. Is it that hard to fathom? I find it stranger that some spurs fans are more obsessed with Liverpool not winning the league compared to us finishing above the scum. That’s more WTF territory IMO
I don’t agree with him but it’s something I’m torn on because I hate arsenal so much so I don’t think it’s a ridiculous position to take at all.
Whenever I feel torn like that, I ask myself how I want to be defined as a Spurs fan: as someone who cares about my club's success or another club's failure? Why does it have to be a joke? He’s a Spurs fan. He hates Arsenal. It really is that simple.

For me, Spurs success will always be more important than Arse's failure. So, really the choice isn't "Spurs fifth and Arsenal sixth or Spurs fourth and Arsenal third", the choice is "Spurs fifth or Spurs fourth". In that scenario, the choice becomes very easy.
Which is fair enough, of course, and I wouldn't judge someone for feeling the way do. My main thrust was specifically about binaries that refer to Arsenal as a consideration when defining what qualifies as success for us.TBF, he listed his priorities and number 1 was "win something". You could argue that qualifying for the CL, while great for the revenue, actually decreases our chances of winning something.
If we were 5th and Arsenal 6th then we would have a better chance of winning something in the form of the Europa (if treated seriously) we'd also have the added bonus of potentially knocking Arsenal out in the process.
It just comes back to what you define as success and failure. It's subjective at the end of the day but if you want to define it as trophies then CL qualification shouldn't come into it. Obviously you'd rather us win the CL but it's pretty unlikely. Us winning anything is unlikely tbh
I understand what he's saying but given the choice it's a no brainer really.
And personally I think it's a bit of a small time mentality but each to their own.
Yeah we all hate Arsensal but surely we love Spurs more?
So if it was a strict choice between the two options posed, I'd pick finishing fourth behind them, and being a CL Club for our first full season in the new stadium.
Europa league next season in our stunning new stadium? Sorry, fuck that. Now that would see us get the piss ripped right out of us.
I never find myself asking how I want to be defined as a Spurs fan. Following Spurs isn't a truly important thing in my life or a noble calling; it's a leisure activity, much like how I love watching films and listening to music. The only thing I really care about when watching Spurs is how much fun I'm having, and personally (for me and me alone), finishing above Arsenal is more fun than playing in the CL (and, in turn, winning trophies is more fun than finishing above Arsenal).Whenever I feel torn like that, I ask myself how I want to be defined as a Spurs fan: as someone who cares about my club's success or another club's failure?

And that's entirely your prerogative. What you take from the game is up to you. I became a Spurs fan not through a love of Spurs but through a hatred of Arsenal . A kid I didn't like asked me which football team I supported. I was 6 years old and had no interest or knowledge of football so I asked him who his team was. He said "Arsenal", so I asked him who their biggest rivals were and when he told me "Spurs" I said I was a Spurs fan.
Therefore I can quite understand why some may rather than finish above Arsenal out of the CL places, than below them in them. It's not an opinion I hold myself but it is certainly not one that should be derided.
