I suspect the original article was trying to provoke a response along the lines of "ooooh depression's not a real illness, just get over yourself and man up" or "how can a premiership footballer suffer from a form of mental illness when they earn so much money."

Have to wonder at what point anyone at the club thought this was an acceptable thing to make public, considering suffering from depression can often be an intensely private and guarded thing.

Which, to be brutally honest, would lead me to suspect that it is very true in which case making this public was very, very stupid.

I remember when Stan Collymore was still playing and was being treated for depression. When he visited The Lane almost the entire ground was taunting him with "You're mad and you know you are".

maybe the managers got depression because diakites playing so badly, so he wants to give him time off?

I think what the original poster was trying to allude us to with a degree of subtlety is the two players behind poor old Diakite who seem to be two notable former players.

I feel almost depressed myself looking at that...
