“I like the good player and the right profile, with energy - an aggressive player, but who always can play under our philosophy, our way.

“It’s not about young or old. The most important thing the people need to know is that we need to build a very good squad, a very good team, to try to win the trophy. “

This is important because in football it’s not about bringing in players, young players, to develop these players and sell them. In football, our supporters and us, we are ambitious and we want to win the title. For that we need to create first a very good team and try to deliver that.”

Love this guy.

Edmonton on Coys (in regards to Poch and this article)

He is completely safe at the moment so it doesn't include him. Top 4 was not a requirement this season.

Trix in response:

Indeed

Anyone who thought it was is full time delusional.

Lloris (if he wants to stay)
Kane
Bentalab
Rose (I can't believe I'm writing this!)

I don't think anyone else's position is guaranteed, even Eriksen needs to step up and be a more reliable player.

Wha
Don't buy players who you don't want or who don't fit in with your philosophy then? It's quite simple.

He's had two transfer windows now and it doesn't look like he's got any closer to building a squad he can trust, if anything he's acquired more deadwood that will need shifting.

He's full of hot air. I didn't think I'd be saying this but I miss the straight-talking of Sherwood.
what philosophy

None of the transfers last summer were anything to do with him and he didn't sign anyone in January, so I'm counting this as his first proper transfer window.

Why not? He needs to make a stand against whomever is buying these players behind his back then.

I don't buy it, and from his team selections i'm not sure he even knows what the team needs.

Hope I'm wrong and he turns it around, I just find him a bit uninspiring at the moment.

Because he'd only just joined the club, he said what positions needed strengthening, but he couldn't have scouted anyone himself, he would've had to trust our scouts to recognize talented player in the relevant positions.

I cannot understand all the negativity. yes it has been a bad season but clearly a transitional one (as is the norm for us) this season is about deciding who does and doesn't fit. everyone has had chances including Kaboul etc(which everyone moaned about) People keep banging on about not rotating etc yet we clearly have a squad of players not suited to the way he wants to play, He needs hard working players with pace. nobody knows who was responsible for the signings like stambouli,
nobody here knows how well he trains. Potchettino now seems to have worked out who he trusts in the squad, so lets just hope he gets more say in this summers signings and judge after a season with a squad of his choosing. If then it is another failure, then yes we can start banging on about how bad he is doing.

The only thing he can really be blamed for is not adjusting his system to suit the players we do currently have, but even then this season is probably more about drumming his system into the players we do want around.

For once let a manager actually have his transitional season and see where it leads. either that or hire someone else and let them have a transitional season all of their own

Pretty clear from that that Stambouli is dead meat.

There could be a confirmation there of Adebayor's claim that he has a good relationship with Poch, and that he is just not being picked on merit (his head is clearly more fucked up than usual this season)

That said I am not sure I entirely buy POch not playing favourites; he seems to have very few favourites and to always play them, regardless of form.

The closing remark could be seen as a shot across the bows to Levy on transfer strategy.

Poch is certainly safe for now, but if Levy does not deliver the transfer targets he wants, and Poch does not deliver the entertaining football Levy expects, it could all fall apart quite quickly. Fingers crossed it all works out.

I think with the case of Stambouli, I'm reminded of something I heard about players you draft or maybe acquire in free agency in the NFL...sometimes a player comes in and you realize he just can't play - doesn't have the athletic ability, the mentality, the football intelligence needed to succeed.

Poch obviously doesn't want a central of defensive midfielder who doesn't offer both offense and defense and with all the training that Stambouli has done before games when he hasn't been named to the squad, he must lack something physically for Poch as well.

You can't have it both ways old bean:

From the very man himself:

"We want to keep all our players, I say this many times," he added. "We need a strong squad, but there is nothing else to say on this. I am happy with the squad".

He said this before the transfer window shut and it was probably said in response to rumours of/being asked about anyone being signed/sold in January. It was also before we played Arsenal. So no.

The squad had been managed as badly as ever before.

Redknapp was lambasted for only playing his mates and leaving others out.

Others like. ..
Kaboul
Adebeyor
Lennon
Stambouli
Capoue
Paulinho
Yedlin
Dembele
