Pleat is frequently ridiculed - often rightly so, after that prostitution scandal - but it's often forgotten what a hige contribution he made when Hoddle left.

He energised a floundering team, brought in players like defoe and michael brown (a key player in us climbing up the table that season) and I think he also arranged the robinson transfer although if memory serves, he didn't join until the summer when pleat's tenure was over

Played some super football, and had the team play with aplomb. If only he had Ceambonddda at his disposal...

I think he came to us because he wanted to play at CB and the Gooners already had Vermaelen who pushed Vertonghen out to LB in the Belgian team. Bet he's glad he chose us now though.
