What will remain to be seen is whether AVB is the right man for the transition or whether it would have been a wiser move to headhunt someone younger, forward-thinking but with a more traditional approach to perhaps try and pick up and continue from where Harry left off. I wasn't a huge fan of bringing in Rodgers just because I wasn't sure he was ready yet but there is a bit of me that, if things go badly, will wonder if the wrong managers went to the wrong teams.

We were kind of tailor-made for Rodgers though he would have had to find serious replacements for VDV and Modric too whereas Pool need a refit. Then again, I seriously doubt AVB would get the time he needed there.

It does.
AVB wasn't my first choice.
But what I don't like, personally, is the feeling that there are still fans obsessed with their disagreement with the dismissal of Mr Redknapp who appear to have been frothing at the gash at the chance to go on the offensive if AVB had a slow start.

Me, once George Graham was appointed I wanted him to succeed with all my heart - and that was some transition.

Jesus, lets give him a chance before he's hung, drawn and quartered, shall we?

Lets not forget that we were no great shakes under Redknapp for the last half of last season. We only won 6 out of our last 18 league games last year including some humiliating cup exits.

The squad has had a massive overhaul and we've lost our best three players. Lets just hope the fans give AVB the chance to implement his ideas. Only then can we judge his success.

You mean, you want to wait until he is relaxed and then pounce? Good plan (y)

Was at the game too it wasn't great viewing but I think he'll get it right. Avb doesn't need to worry about support not coming from the irish contingent. I was flying back home and who walks into the Ryanair terminal heading off to dark? Yes our manager and he was swamped by boys (and middle aged men) looking for pictures and autographs which he fair play to him seen to everyone who queued up. Nice to see but I'm also thinking he should have had the players in early in the morning....
Meant to say heading off to faro

Did I miss something? Is a draw now a defeat?

OK maybe it felt a bit like one because of the fact it was at home to Norwich but As people have said earlier, we lost this one last season. I'll be honest, I was a little confused by starting line up. Thought Dembele would start and that Livermore would take his rightful place on the bench but aside from that we are adjusting, give this guy time. Potentially our whole spine is going to change in the next few months if the new signings become first choice. Thats going to take a bit of bedding in. If we are sitting at the end of October with barely any more points than now then yeah lets get into him and see if we can get a message through about him not being right for us, but for now can we just give this some time?

The problem isn't the result, it's the performance. No one in the team seemed to put any effort into the game and noone really seem to care either.

I've walked away from 4/5 goal batterings happier than today.

Shouldn't this thread be addressed to our Chairman ? We the fans will back the manager, the question is when will he ?

People are not criticising him because they want to, they are not happy with what they are seeing right now its as simple as that.

Do you think he fiale dto back him because the Moutinho deal fell through? Because it has been claimed that their is a third party ownership issue causing problems, and that a fee and personal terms were eventually agreed, just too late to go through to the FA on time.

Yes, but it is possible to be unhappy with what you are seeing without make ill-thought out, inaccurate and sometimes plain bizarre complaints.

I most certainly wasn't happy with what I saw today, but I do realisse that there may well be a teething process, that we had players missing/unavailable today and others who have had little time to adjust (Adebayor/Dembele) and the new manager is still trying to inculcate his methods.

Moutinho and Willian, not just failing to get them, if he wanted to back his new manager he should have reshaped the squad at least a few weeks before the season started not at 10:59 on deadline day.

Best thread i have seen on here today. Of course nobody is happy at the moment, but it takes time, anyone who is not blind could see in the first 2 games how good a high intensity pressing game could be if given time, its a new system, it will take a while to adapt.

To the people moaning about AVB making to many changes and saying he did not learn from chelsea mistakes, We had King, Modric and Vdv ripped from the team, through no fault of his own, that was the spine of last years side, He had no choice but to make changes, should he not have signed any players because "it's to much to soon"? ridiculous. IF he is given the time it takes to get his system in place and complete his rebuilding job (because that is exactly what it is) then i think we will all be happy come the end of the season. I also think Verts, Dembele and Dempsey will prove to be fantastic players for this club and couple will prove a lot of doubters wrong.

Anyway thats me done, supposed to be trying to enjoy my holiday

I've got no major problem with AVB. He's a specific manager with specific requirements and DL would have promised him specific things to get him to come here...and then ceremoniously fucked his arse inside out, yesterday. He is on a learning curve with some of the 'talent' we have here that flatter to deceive, and deceived he has been. I'd give him the whole season personally; doubt Levy will though.

It's another classic set-up and AVB is the fall guy.

AVB is 34. How much younger than him were you thinking of? And what do you mean by 'a more traditional approach'? 4-4-2?

Judging by many of the posts on SC today, AVB is unlikely to get the time he needs here. And, let's be fair, he is not being his own best friend.

Hey, I love illuminating factual statements like this! No wonder you're called the itkMan!

jj and others have indicated that levy chooses the players. and its fairly obvious that avb wanted moutinho all along.

have you got any facts that say otherwise?

and stop going on about my username, have you been a spurs player for last 80 odd years?
