I think most of us are well aware of this.
The fact is most of us would rather lose Toby on a bosman next year than lose him for £25m this year. That's why we're happy the clause has expired.
Fair 'nuff.

He must be one of the most poorly advised players in world football, by my count assuming he's on roughly 50 and was offered at least 150, he's heading into his 3rd year after that offer was made he's looking at about 15 million he's missed out on. Now you look at the likes of Roma trying to get him, they're not going to be able to cover those losses + additional going forward plus pay 25 million for him. The only chance he has of recouping any of that loss of earnings is if he leaves on a free and gets a mega wage.
According to Kristof Terreur, who is considered highly connected with Belgium players, he's currently on £60K and was offered £90K. If that is accurate, a £15M signing bonus and a 3 yr deal at £60K wk will make up for not signing a 5yr £90K extension.
His new club saves roughly £9M and he pockets a nice one time payday.
Now if he was offered £150K, that's another story.
I was going by the figures thrown about on here but 90k would make sense as to why he kicked up a fuss
He's a fucking monster and I can't wait to watch another season of Jan & Toby.
Yeah I think everyone should hold on the wankfest until September 2nd, which is the latest deadline in Europe for a Top 5 league IIRC.
Call me Officer, Son.Yes, Dad.
Just because the clause has ended doesn’t mean he can’t be sold. Possibly for even less.

Ok and if he doesn't sign a new contract (likely) he can still go to all of those clubs...for free. Not to mention we've regained control of where he ends up. The idea of him falling cheaply into the hands of Utd, Liverpool, City or Arsenal was the worse thing about this clause.
I am aware. However, in that scenario, its an issue for next summer when he's older, Sanchez/Foyth are more developed and we have 3 months to deal with the situation not two weeks.Ok and if he doesn't sign a new contract (likely) he can still go to all of those clubs...for free.

The whole point of the clause was to provide some leverage to the player in the scenario where the club exercised its option.
If he won’t sign an extension and another club makes an offer before the deadline that meets his wage demands but they offer £18M or £20M, you don’t think Levy would seriously consider it? The club doesn’t want either Toby or Eriksen to walk for free. They may have a price bottom where it’s worth keeping over selling and maybe that number is £25M in Toby’s case.
I’m not saying it’s going to happen but based on what has/hasn’t occurred thus far, it’s a possibility. If I was a Chairman and I knew I could come to terms with the player, I’d offer less than £25M.
