I love him

I don't really know why

But I do

I will accept though that my weirdness is not a reason to spend 15m

A couple more goals between now and June would help
Love him too mate, he just seems like a really down to earth hard working likeable bloke, also Timo is a cool name like our good old friend Teemu :) at lot of us had good vibes about this signing from day1, glad it is working out well but yes a few more goals would be ideal to seal the deal.

They won't. I also don't think we'll try and move him on so soon after signing him.

Personally I don't reckon we'll sign Werner. We're obviously giving him a carrot at the moment to motivate him but IMO we'll sign a higher level wing forward in the summer to compete for a starting spot.
I'm guessing we're assessing our options.

Out of our current 5 choices in Son, Johnson, Richarlison, Kulusevski and Solomon, Solomon is the only one I think we'd contemplate selling this summer and I don't see it happening.

I don't believe we can accommodate 7 players for these 3 positions so it's either buy Werner or look for better. If we can't find better then we might go with Werner as he is a good player who fits our playing style really well.

His movement off the ball is among the best on the team. He seems to be one of those players who is very smart and relies on his brain as much as anything. and when things aren't working his brain provides him too much feedback.

this has to be right.

I wonder though, as it relates to Werner - if we got 50m for The Richi, much as I like him, selling him and buying Werner would be good business.

Then:
1) assess Solomon - though I recognise he’s similar(ish) to Werner; and
2) buy a more direct richi replacement or promote Veliz

Options!

I’d like to see what Solomon can bring though. Looks good to me

But if other outgoings and respective incomings can be sorted, Werner for 15 would be an outrageous bargain

I'm still on the fence with the signing.

He fits our system really well, seems like a really good guy and doesn't seem the type to complain if making a few sub appearances.

I still worry that signing him leaves with good options but a lack of special players. Not against the signing and he might be the best fit available, just on the fence a bit.
We don't need special players and I can't think of anyone we could get anyway. We just need players who fit the system and give everything for the shirt. Time to stop thinking like when we had Kane. Players are having to step up without him and we're better for it.

Teams do need special players if they want to compete at the very top.

It might be someone like when Liverpool bought Salah, a quality player who hadn't yet performed to his level. Or a younger player with heaps of ability and needs to see out his potential.

My post didn't say anything about buying a player of Kane's ability.

So, Werner and Johnson then?

Maybe he is that guy. Maybe he has it in him to be a Salah and hit 20+ now he's reaching his prime.

My gut feeling is Johnson and Werner can be very good but not that elite level, but I can't really say that with any certainty.

Why does he have to be Salah?

Why can't he be Diaz?

Son is our Salah.

I'm talking about us trying to find an elite/Salah level player.

I have no idea how you think your response has anything to do with the point I'm making.
You are saying Werner maybe can be a Salah-like player.

I am asking why he needs to be a Salah-like player.

We have Son, as a Salah-like player.

Liverpool also have Diaz - why Can't Werner and/or Johnson just be a Diaz-like player? Diaz has 6 goals, 3 assists in 1800 minutes, Werner has 2 and 2 in 400 minutes, and Johnson has 4 and 6 in 1400 minutes.

Not every forward has to put up 20+ goals to be effective and be a good player to have on the team.

No I'm not. For the 3rd time I am talking about ability, not position.

We have 5 good options for the front 3 positions. We are likely looking for one more and I believe we should be looking for a higher level player, like Salah's level.

Why you keep talking about positions when I've explained to you 3 times that I am talking about Salah's ability, not his position or playing style is anyone's guess.

I hope for your sake, you're drunk.

Not sure why you keep mentioning that - I know you mean ability - which is why I am taking about his ability not his position.

Son is our Salah.

We don't need Werner (or Johnson) to be a 20-goal scorer to be effective - at whatever position you want to play him.

Liverpool have a Salah and a Diaz - why can't Werner or Johnson be our Diaz level player (if that helps you understand the point better). Werner and Johnson - this season are better than Diaz. We can live with that.

Eventually we will have to replace Son, just as Liverpool will have to replace Salah. But we don't need every one of our forwards be a 20+ goal scorer...

My point is simply that we have Son then 4 players currently around the 7-8/10 level. Adding Werner is another 7-8/10 player and I think we should be looking for someone with a higher ceiling.

Richarlison is already at 10 in 1300 minutes. Johnson is at 4 goals and 6 assists - and he is 22 - he might get better...

We do need a Son replacement - but that should not keep us from getting a good player in at a good price.

Sell Bryan, and we have room for a more dynamic winger. Keeping Werner does not preclude us from doing any more business.
