It's direct for sure but severely lacking in footballing smarts and general game intelligence for me.

The 'brains' will almost certainly have to come further back in Maddison, Lo Celso and Bentancur.

You've answered your own dilema in your second paragraph!

Not sure I agree it would be severly lacking either. Son has incredible vision as well....see that pass for Richy against Bournemouth....which he fluffed!

'Why is our Australian manager so taken with the idea of Timo?' I asked myself this arvo, whilst watching a doco by a journo who was interviewing this garbo from Freo in a servo...

Obviously, there's more to it than that, but let's hope we - and Danno - aren't devo by how it turns out.
You suggesting Ange thinks his name is Tim Werner?

Tell u what...a front three of:

Johnson
Werner
Son

.....is potentially devestating. The pace in that front line is scary

It’s rapid with good movement but it badly lacks technical ability, guile, ball retention as well as dribbling ability. Son is the only clinical finisher too and he’ll be stuck out wide.

Against teams who leave themselves very open we may cause havoc in the space but against a really good side who shut us down quickly or against a low block we will struggle imo. There just isn’t enough variety and there is a big lack of certain key traits in that front 3.

What we will have is another quick player who is good at pressing and should help us maintain our energy levels throughout matches either starting or as an impact sub.

Yep no way we drop a fairly in-form Richy from his current ST role. Werner will love the LW role under Ange and can then have some minutes up top when Richy goes off around 70 mins.
With Son gone and Solomon obviously not fit to start I don’t think we will have any other options unless we try Johnson left again. Neither is ideal tho. If we plan to start a front three of Johnson, Richy and Werner then we will need both Kulu and Gio to start.

All true however if Solomon is back he and Kulu can provide more of the guile plus Maddison & GLC.

Solomon for me is a poor man’s Jota, he should be good against the low blocks but next summer id like us to add Jota to really give us a great mix of options as I agree we do at times lack a bit of guile and creativity but Werner, Johnson, Richy and Son will cause teams big problems with their pace and movement the way we play.

He’s played on the left plenty, and I’d actually say that’s probably a better fit for him in Ange’s system
Not for me, central is where he’ll be best. Not sure what attributes he has that suggest he’d be a good fit on the wing.

I take back every negative thing I ever thought/said about him. And I said this same thing in the lead up to possibly getting VDV, but the two attributes you can't teach are speed and height. He sure seems to have the speed part.

Most times I watched him for RB before he went full Chavs, he seemed to play more toward the left. I could be misremembering. But I have to disagree with this notion that he isn’t productive enough cutting in from the left. No idea what that is based on. In the same way, I had no idea what Brennan would bring to the table under Ange. For me, it is a complete clean slate. Let‘s see how he does, based on where the coach fella wants him to play. Which… if I were a guessing man, I believe it will be on the left or right.

That said…Ange is always full of surprises.
Your remembering the same as he attacked predominantly from the left

We don't really play with a typical "wing" - Ange is trying to get the ball, and people, into the box. In an ideal world, the LW carries the ball into the box, draws a defender, and then slots the ball to the striker, or pulls it back for a training CM (or even Udogie).

Werner is not just pacy - he is quick - and can use that to pressure defenders and get the ball in the box from the left side.

I think Werner is probably best as a striker - but that is not the same as saying he is ineffective as a wing player. In many ways, he would be similar to Son in the LW role.

And, I think Werner is more effective as a LW, than Richarlison is. So, if our attacking options are Werner, Richarlison, Johnson - that is the order I would line them up.

Not sure ball retention skills in our front three is majorly relevant.

We'll press, look to turn the ball over and transition quickly using our pace to take advanatge before the opposition get set.

Also Werner contributed a lot to Chelsea's attack. Sure he didnt hit good numbers in terms of goals but he made significant contributions to their all round attack.

Ok, against bus parkers more finesse with the ball comes into it, but we then look at other permutations.

That front three, at Old Trafford for example, would be deadly.

When he played off the sides for Leipzig though it would be as an inside forward, not a winger. They are 2 very different roles with different skill sets imo and in our system the only real position he will probably be able to play is as a striker.

I don’t necessarily disagree but If we drop Richy for Werner straight off the bat then we will kill whatever confidence he will have built up in recent weeks. Going to be a delicate situation for Ange to manage.
Without wishing to be controversial and without wanting to have a pop at Richarlison I think it may not be a problem for a lot longer.
I'm really beginning to feel that Richarlison may be moved on in the summer.
