I seem to remember Aulas doing the same thing with Lloris, dragging it out until the last day, inviting bids from every club under the sun... silly to expect any different from him!
Exactly.Fucking hell, you’d all lose clubs hundreds of millions of pounds if you were involved in our negotiations.
Lyon value Ndombele at £66m. fine.
Spurs haven’t made a bid yet but value him at £44m. Fine
That is where negotiation happens.
If Levy said “Hello french me, this is our first offer... here’s the £66m you want, paid in full.” what is Aulas going to say?
“Actually....our valuation of him has changed. We want £77m.”
Don’t start running the tub and plugging the toasters in yet, for fucks sake.
i agree - The players that hes competing with at national level (Kante and Sissoko) both moved for around £30m a few years back and hes much younger than them so add in transfer inflation in the meantime and E50m seems like a reasonable opening bid that shows we're not taking the p**s (for once).I'd say that actually is quite believable.

I believe Arsenal signed Lacazette with a bit less drama than us with Lloris. Quick google search suggests that deal was done on 5 July 2017. So it can be done.
I remember there being similar games in the media though. Aulas saying he won't be sold etc.
Over £60 million for somebody who's only played in the French league is a lot of money.
Do people remember Bakayoko for Monaco? He looked great in the French league and in CL games.

There is a reason we struggle to get transfers done and in large part due to this constant haggling and low ball offers that only get off negotiations to a bad start and piss off the selling club. Our MO is to declare interest in players, unsettle them, and offer significantly less than market value.
Liverpool is a great example of the decisiveness needed in the modern day market. They identify targets, don’t f’ around, and come in with offers to get the player bought. They rarely have missed on their major targets the past few years and it’s the reason they pushed on past us and won the CL and destroyed the league.
The transfer market has moved years beyond Levy and he is just no longer effective in managing it. I am sure Poch is growing tired of it as well.
Leave it to Daniel , he got Hugo at reasonable cost. Same President still at Lyon.
“We have had people speaking all night with Daniel Levy. He talks a lot and goes back on what we’ve agreed in writing. The things as they were at 5am were not the same at 10am.
“I would put it at 50-50 that Hugo goes to Tottenham. Agreements have not at all been respected. We’ve done what we can. The negotiation with the Tottenham directors has been the hardest I have ever had to undergo in 25 years.”
It was still quite a high fee for a 'keeper at the time though iirc.If I recall correctly, we did lowball well under what they wanted for Hugo, but his contract was running down and he chose us so despite dragging it out to the last day there was little Aulas could do in the end.
