I’m really struggling with this guy. He’s so disappointing in the attacking third. Poor decision making and poor execution. He’s basically only in the team right now because he’s disciplined and protects his full-back. If that’s the case then we might as well play Davies and Reguilon at the same time because he’s giving us nothing going forward. Time to have a look at someone to go up top with Kane and Sonny imo.

Couldn’t disagree more.

Think he was okay today, good defensively but needed some sharpness in front of goal. That comes with time.

He was unlucky not to win that game for us tonight. Thought he was good, just not quite there in the finish.

A shame as a goal today and we could have been seeing a different player for the upcoming matches. I do think just that one goal could really see a change in his fortunes. Could really do with him helping Son and Kane out with the goal scoring duties.

I know I'm reaching for positives but it was good to at least see him in chances in front of goal. Hopefully he can continue to do that and the goals will come.

I’m not saying to literally do it. I’m saying if he’s just in the team to defend we may as well be playing an extra defender instead of him. What we need is a more productive forward playing instead of him. Either need Bale to kick it up a gear or to give Vinicius a crack now.

If he took his shot any closed to the keeper he would of saved it. It was more good goal keeping than a miss. The other one he was being tugged. Kanes miss was far worse

I've been critical of him , but honestly thought that was his best performance this season.
He's usually no goal threat at all, so im disappointed but also pleased he actually showed good attacking qualities if not the finishing

i rate him, but he is so short on confidence in front of goal and in a result business it is really hurting us.

hes still young and been in the prem for under a year. i think theres quality there.
I agree. But I don’t think he can get to the level of the others unless he turns into a Kane like trainer. He is very average to below average in pace, skill, crossing and finishing. Things you need in a winger/attacker. I just don’t see the tools to his game to take it the next level. I know son took some time but you could see good pace and finishing even from his early days.

Had a look at both again and think I agree, it was good goalkeeping by Alisson for the one that hit the post. Looked to have got his angles spot, made himself big and Bergwijn done most things right to be fair. The first one, know Trent made it difficult but almost seemed like he was panicked into getting any kind of shot away and maybe needed a bit more composure.

Im struggling too but at the same time im giving him the benefit of the doubt that defensively he is doing his job. Perhaps thats a sad indictment that im judging a foeard based on his defensive ability because he clearly isnt being selected for his attacking play.

I think Jose was hoping Bale would have shown more but he clearly hasnt (even if he was fit today he wouldnt have started)

I wont blame Bergwijn for missing his opportunities today because Kane missed a simple chance but id have expected Bergwijn to score one of his opportunities

Son always showed glimpses that he could finish and be clinical.

Unfortunately, it looks like Stevie can't hit a barn door at the minute.
The exact argument against Son was that he wasn’t clinical enough. Then hey presto as he got a bit more used to the league, older and more comfortable, the finishing became more consistent. Look at Salah at Chelse v Salah at Liverpool. The same again
