Needs to work on his composure in and around the penalty area - seems to just resort to blasting the ball goal wards too often. If someone can get hold of him and get him to play a bit more intelligently in the final third then he might turn into a solid player. Depends how long you wait for that to happen though, kinda like Ndombele.

Needs to be coached similarly to the rest of the signings we've made these past two seasons.

Keep. I could see him flourishing especially if Poch gets to work with him.

First class work rate and I would be looking to get shot of Lamela and Maura first.
Crazy to think he’s someone people want to bin. He’s a much better option to rotate with son (and bale) in a WF role as he can play on both flanks.
Whilst his numbers don’t make for great reading, that’s mostly in comparison to Kane and son who were top scorers and assists makers in the league (and bales record in terms of goals p/min is extraordinarily good too).
he’s a talented, young member of the squad with a good range of attributes (although not exceptional at any one thing).
He should not be sold off before lamela and Lucas, as far as I’m concerned. It’s a shame that he felt the significance of his miss at anfield as much as he did, but I’m sure he can bounce back

Keeping him or not should be a choice mainly by the manager coming in. I am not sure he could fit anywhere under Conte (maybe as an offensive wing back?) and we should not keep him because we think his value is not high enough right now. It won't be higher if the new manager has no plans for him.

Personal opinion, I am honestly completely fine with him staying or leaving.

It's a Pandora box of opinions when it comes to appreciating or rating players. Many on here thought Kyle Walker was useless and that Son is world class. It doesn't surprise me that people want rid of Bergwijn who I feel is a brilliant player in the making....I've mentioned before if your face doesn't fit you ain't given the same grace as others ie prime example is Lo Celso, let's be brutally honest has been a flop so far but is seen in a different light amongst many social media posters.

We’ve been great at collecting these kinds of players that blow hot and cold to the point of polarising the fanbase. Bergwijn blew hot on his debut then something hit him and he’s looked shattered for confidence since. Shame as he can be like a bull once he gets going and can clearly smash a ball but maybe here just isn’t right for him and he needs to find a new home to realise the success.

Feels a lot like Depay when he was at United.

I wonder if he could reinvent himself as a wingback if Conte comes.

He deserves better than to be converted into a wingback, he's a good footballer that needs coaching.

Another player signed because of their skillset but upon arrival asked to do different things and not put in a position to succeed.

There were links between Bergwijn and Ajax - even though I figured he would stay, I would think this ends their interest

I like Bergwijn and see the potential, but would love if there was a deal to be made with Ajax for Antony. I have watched him since his early days here in Brazil, and i truly think he is a star in the making.

Think he would do a great job, in the right wing back role. Since the end days of Poch's reign, as a club we have lacked a proper structure, so I've got time for the likes of him, Reggie to cement a spot within Nuno's system, and improve.

I'd never heard of the bloke before all the furore on here telling me he was the greatest, fastest, most skilful player ever. People were wetting their pants.

I have watched him play for Spurs since then. He is a solid enough player, but doesn't have explosive pace. He is pretty tidy in terms of skill but doesn't have tricks to get himself into dangerous positions.

I wanted a 3rd forward in order we could possibly play in the way the scousers do. He isn't good enough for that.

He's ok. No more no less. Hopefully he could go onto have a better season but will he score double figures or cement himself into the team?

Not having a go at Bergwijn at all, but he isn't the long term answer for Spurs imo.

I agree he’s a ok player lacks a bit of quality in the box and generally goes missing for large parts of games . Will he ever have improve enough to be a regular here ! I doubt it .

I think it's going to be unfair to judge anyone of flair who's been at the club under Mourinho - it's a bit like judging a beauty contest in a coal mine.

That first sentence is not true. He was seen as a fast, skillful player by basically everyone who had seen him play. You just went full hyperbole. But, if you were expecting the “greatest, fastest, most skillful player ever” and thought that was Steven Bergwijn I do feel bad you were led astray.

Precisely and that is my point. The people that were telling me that obviously had not seen him play either - that was not my hyperbole. I expected though a different Steven Bergwijn to the one that actually played for us. The fee involved certainly supported that.

I of course should know and expect that because it happens (here and elsewhere) with most players we buy to a certain extent.

I am more than happy to give Bergwijn the benefit of another season. I think he was a massive victim of Mourinho’s crap tactics. The goal he scored at the end of the season showed what he can bring to the team and he is both very good technically and has a great team ethos. I am convinced he has a higher ceiling than Moura or Lamela.

Yeah I think he actually needs freeing up more than anything. Nuno transformed Traore from a player who couldn’t trap a bag of sand into a feared winger. He could easily do the same with Bergwijn and I’d start from a much higher base there too.

There’s rumours that Nuno likes a smaller squad though and I do wonder if it’s between selling him and Lucas and if we got a suitable offer in for one of them, then that one would go.
