Amazing game from an amazing player. Let’s hope he can remain that clinical throughout the season, as if he does he will post Salah-esque numbers like a couple of years back

148 goals in 377

6th in our league table of record scorers - 11 behind the Welsh wizard Cliff Jones

The king is dead, long live the king

Another 9 season wonder…..

The big challenge for Son as a CF will come from games where the opponents sit deep. But that will also be down to the WF’s. Very encouraging tho, Solomon, Son and Maddison completed each other really nicely I thought.

I've been saying this for a fucking year, his strengths are running in behind and finishing and his weakness is coming deep and being involved in the build up play.

He was wasted on the wing in a defensive side. He IS a centre forward. Play him up top running in behind.

Imo both Peresic and Solomon play left wing better than Son and Son is now our CF with Richarlison as back up (quality strength in depth).

Now with Johnson we have so many options.

Apart from scoring a hattrick, he also worked his socks off pressing.

Sonny in the centre, with Solomon/Johnson on the wings looks pretty tasty, with plenty of pace upfront.
Our bench suddenly looks a little better with Kulu, Richy, Perisic etc on it as well

Hopefully Bentancur comes back and adds a bit more depth whilst recovering from his lay off too.

"Sonny can't play centrally"
Been such a bizarre opinion this. Every time he’s played there he’s done excellently and I’ve been saying all summer that he’s FAR more suited to playing centrally these days. Especially in a system that moves the ball forward as quickly as possible like this one

Agree. Think Spurs fans have become so used to the ST needing to be a hold-up player that we can't imagine anything else working lol

Could never take seriously anyone on here saying he's finished (as recently as this morning, for fucks sake), and that he can't play down the middle as if we haven't seen him do it before. Likewise, that he was the wrong choice for captain, when he's the perfect and only choice, because he has the respect of literally everyone, is a club legend, adores the club and will stay through thick and thin, and can back it all up with the goals.

Glad that he's stuffed it up a few people this afternoon and hope that they have the moment of reflection that's required. At the end of the day he is an excellent runner and an absolutely elite finisher, and at the very top end of the elite finishers at that, both statistically, and on the eye, over years and years. You just need to give him the opportunities.

Stick him up top, Richy is his understudy, and we go from there putting it on a plate for him.

Seemed very comfortable as the center forward. His overall play, outside of his really well taken goals, was superb. Linked passages of play up nicely. Looking forward to seeing more of that.

Mate, I'll hold my hands up!
It was only a couple of days ago that I was worrying about his form and he also wouldn't have been my choice for skipper because he's had too many games over the past year where he's struggled and been anonymous.

But today, he was back to the Sonny we know and long may that continue.
I've been impressed with his leadership qualities, things like taking the squad over to clap the away fans at the start of game and the way he's speaking.

I think he suffered more than anyone from Conte's rigid style but Ange is a completely different kettle of fish.
So many of our players are going to flourish under him, the squad togetherness is great and it looks like they're all enjoying the game again.

Our club is buzzing again and it's great to see both the players and the fans enjoying the game again.

My middle son, the one who's into football, is 15 so most of his time of properly supporting us has been pretty fucking awful.
Now we're both going out of our way to watch games together (he lives with his mum, my ex) and we're both totally buzzing from the start of this season.

This is what football is all about and I'm so chuffed to be able to share with my lad what Spurs is all about too.
