Sessegnon is a better defender than Reguilon. He also is far superior in the final third in terms of chance creation and shooting. Only problem is his glass hamstrings. Reguilon is faster and has more confidence but less output. Conte has clearly decided Reggy is not up to it otherwise he would not have bought Perisic and left Reggy out of the South Korean tour
I completely agree that it's clear Conte has made the decision and of course who am I to question it, just seems an odd choice when Sessegnon can't stay fit.

Sevilla are working on a loan deal for Reguilón with Tottenham.

? On the other hand, Augustinsson is very close to Aston Villa on loan, who will have an option to buy according to @muchodeportecom.

It appears Conte does not rate reguillon at all, judging by the Korean squad

If that is the case, best he leaves.

He’s the only proper left back on the books (rather than LWB), and a good one at that!

Id be more inclined to loan and reassess next season. If our Manager was to change (God forbid) and someone comes in who plays with a back 4 then we may very well rue letting him go.

I also feel the same applies to Emerson

I suspect we could leverage a decent deal for him. Sevilla linked this morning. Being left at home seems a pretty clear indication of where he sits within Conte’s plans. Shame, whilst he can be a bit erratic at times, I do think he brings some energy to the LWB role and finds his way into decent positions.

Reguilon is the LB version of Bergwijn… they both have a knack of getting into great positions only to 99/100 make an utter hash of it.

Disagrees with this on both fronts. Bergwijn didn't get enough game time, Reguillon is decent no idea why Conte doesn't like him. On performances he's miles ahead of the current sessegnon. I'm sure Sessegnon will improve but Regguillon is far more composed in the box and better at crossing.

So many issues with your post, so I will just address the main one.

Reguillon has not improved from when he joined us. Sessegnon has massively improved.

Conte can see that

I think sess is younger, English and could have a decent ceiling.

regs I personally think has very good movement and gets into brilliant positions, something sess doesn’t do. Sess is better defensively is probably more composed on the ball but I felt if regs could stay fit and get a run of games he’ll develop well.

Can't see us being interested in a loan only move with Sevilla however not sure if there is a creative option for payment as I am guessing we still owe the majority of the fee for the Bryan Gil transfer. I read for the Bergwijn deal to Ajax, part of the fee was them subtracting the 7m Euro we still owed for Sanchez.

I wonder if a loan option isn’t very attractive to us in comparison to a sale. Apart from the obvious reason, it was reported that the deal we agreed with Madrid for him was in essence a two year loan with fees to be paid after the 2nd year. Which is why he’s suddenly available for sale (to save us from paying the full fee).
loan with obligation might not be enough.
Although that said it could be offset by the money owed for Gil- so who knows?

Yeah, that’s not how financials will work with the contract, I’m pretty sure. Whether he stays or goes, we will be paying Real, it’s nothing to do with him.

Yes sorry I didn’t explain myself very well.
I wonder if the sale (at this point in the contract) allows us to reduce amortisation and recoup as much money as possible making it closer to break even.
Of course we’d still have to pay real off.

I’m probably wrong though.
The comments on this deal by ally gold a while ago made this deal sound different to a lot of deals that happen

Is there any indication of the fee Sevilla would pay for Reggy? Didn’t we buy him for £30m and Madrid had a buyback prior to year 2 at £40m?

Are we at least going to get our money back? He’s a good player.

Massively improved? How many very good games has he had for us? I think you could count them on one hand with a finger or two to spare.

I will grant his best form was his most recent performances under Conte but personally they were more "hmm maybe there is something to work with here" than "our left side problem is over!"

Reggie has frustrated but I think his early form is still a lot higher than we've seen from sess yet.

Doubt it as their record signing is £22.5m and they are skint like every other La Liga club due to the in-league FFP restrictions. I think our only hope of a decent offer is if Kounde is sold this summer.

Agree with this. Sessegnon is purely in the potential category. Reguillon has had elite games for us.

Must just be that we think we'll get a better fee for Reguillon.

You can’t really think it’s just down to getting more money for Reg surely? The manager picked Sessegnon and then picked Doherty LWB ahead of him, he simply doesn’t rate the player. Whereas we’ve heard he highly rated Sess.
Also ‘elite’ performances from Reg have been rare in recent seasons.
