Pundits and press have been calling him ‘an accident waiting to happen’ for ages, I saw it as a message to them...

Why is anyone shocked that a football player spat?!? Did it go in the crowd??

It went into the line of photographers just in front of the crowd. No one deserves to be spat on for doing their job. I don’t exactly want him driven from the club, it was a spur of the moment thing, but it was vile and I can’t believe people are defending it because he scored a nice goal.

The celebration starts at 5.50. Looks to me like he went to spit in general and at the same time Winks jumped on his back making the gob go further.

Certainly didn't look like he was spitting at anybody, just spitting.

some zapruder film-esque analysis here.

hope the collective genius of hive mind analysis will eventually get to the bottom of it all.

I think it’s pretty clear that Aurier wasn’t aiming to spit at anyone, he was jolted by Winks jumping on his back (figuratively rather than metaphorically like in here). This is coming from me, the man who called him a monster who should never play for ya again.

which is more than can be said for a section of fans in Park Lane last night! Even after his goal the vitriol he was receiving from the crowd was hard to hear. Some people, no matter what is happening in front of their eyes choose their scapegoat and blindly stick with that opinion no matter what!

There is plenty of blame to go around it sounds like. The section of Park Lane fans you refer to are idiots to slate one of our own. It is especially true as the fans lack of support can be counterproductive to their own goals, like a Spurs win. F****** tossers if true.

He may not have been spitting at someone but he was spitting to make a point. He is a professional and confronting them the way he did shows a lack of control. Ultimately it only incites them further which then creates more counterproductive behavior for him and the team. It may not be possible to blame him but the behavior cannot be condoned.

Given how under control he has played since JM, this is a surprising turn of events. If I'm Jose, he gets some bench time for this. Not necessarily because of the incident but the opportunity to further reinforce the need for that self control. Serge is an unpolished gemstone. It's not certain what is underneath but playing with better discipline is the quickest way to find out whether he is a diamond in the rough or an piece of quartz.

I can't see him being benched for that.

Jose: Did you spit at the crowd?
Serge: No, I just spat after I scored a goal, you could see I was celebrating

Option 1: tell him he's lying, that you don't trust him, bench and lose his loyalty for a long time, possible forever (especially as he may be telling the truth)

Option 2: tell him it was poorly timed and be careful in the future

I know how that plays out in practise. Until he's done something demonstrably wrong, he'll do what he can to get the best out of him

You could be right and I may be splitting hairs, but I'm not saying bench him for the spit. That was dumb but that was an undisciplined action since he probably wasn't spitting at but towards people to show his displeasure. Given that history of rash challenges, we'll get more out of him the sooner rather than later the more mentally disciplined he becomes. Now if Jose just gives him a talking to in practice because that is what he thinks is needed, so be it. His upside is huge so you can count me as one who is hoping he turns the corner. This was not evidence of that.

Great goal yesterday and good performance. Happy for him.
But im yet to be convinced that Serge is our right back for the future. Have to be consistent over a period.

2 games out of 2 so far - let's see how long he can keep it going for if given the chance.
