Always been a fan of his, will be interesting to see how he will get on with Ange's style of football, it should suit him perfectly, also think the same thing about Reguilon, no doubt we will only be keeping one as cover for Udogie.

The only issue I have with Sess is that he isn’t that confident on the ball in tight spaces. Therefore playing as an inverted full back does he have the strength and playing ability to shield the ball and carry it forward like both Udogie and Porro do.

I’d say he’s a perfect Ange fullback given his attacking strengths lie more in timing runs into the box & goal scoring as opposed to beating a man out wide and crossing. Underlapping would suit him much more than overlapping. Good defender as well and athletic enough to get up snd down. Obviously it’s a big if in terms of staying fit though.

I can’t see him as a winger in this set up at all as he doesn’t take players on 1v1 and being out on the touch line doesn’t suit him.
The qualities you've listed I have to agree with however as someone else has mentioned it's the technical ability in tight spaces and picking up the ball in central midfield that I don't think he has in his repertoire.
He seems so meek on the ball and unwilling to run at player can you imagine if he was expected to do that through the middle? No chance.
At least if he's out wide he's holding a wide position and the expectations is not that he can beat his man, just that he can deliver from wide and attack the back post when it's coming in from the right.

I see him more as a Perisic replacement as I'm more confident in Davies playing that LB role.

The whole team is playing better now and the movement is excellent off the ball at times. I'd be interested to see how Sess does when he returns. Nobody knows how he will adapt and if he will trust his body more after surgery. I do know that Udogie and Porro played wing back and now look great as inverted fullbacks.

I think he'd do really well in this system. The massive fly in the ointment is that he just cannot stay fit for 5 minutes. In that respect he has been a truly awful signing.

This guy has been such a disappointment. Does anyone remember anything good for us? I vaguely remember he scored against bayern munich but that is all

He scored v Southampton at home last season's opening game (I think).

Sess is a winger in this system not a fullback
I reckon he'd be a better full back in this attacking system. His defending isn't terrible, and Udogie actually makes runs more than he dribbles which also suits Sessegnon. Wouldn't surprise me if he turns out half decent, at least as a backup. He isn't a touchline winger so I don't see him offering us much further forward.

He arrived injured and has missed 116 games and counting in four and a half years.

If this surgery doesn't fix his hamstring issues I'd wager his career is actually finished. And even if it does fix things, I'd be astonished if he ever becomes a regular for us again.

Brief string of 4-5 decent games during the best streak under Conte that led us to the top 4. Performance at Anfield especially. Apart from that he's been pretty awful.

IIRC he has been doing everything to avoid surgery but ended up going under the knife in the summer as everything else had failed.

Even if he does get back in the next couple of months, I cannot see him starting any games unless we get a lower division team in the FA Cup (should we progress).

He never was a flying wing-back. He lacks the aggression and relentlessly in that respect.

However, he has excellent timing off the ball and is decent technically so it will be interesting to see him in Ange's system.

I also don’t know who would want to risk taking a gamble on him if we did decide to sell. I guess on loan with option and an injury break clause but one would hardly want to be a position of relying on him.

To be honest I've never rated him. I never understood the wonderkid status he had. It really makes me question just how much football scouting in impacted by confirmation bias. If a player is doing well at a young age, it's assumed he has bags of talent and will therefore develop into something special, so when scouting him, it's as of people look for things that confirm this. There were plenty of "every touch" game videos of his on YT several years ago and there was simply nothing in them that suggested he was an uber talent. He just looked alright. He still is alright. Nothing special and never will be.

You can't be a special player without standout attributes. There is no evidence he has a wand of left foot to whip in dangerous crosses, he doesn't have a rocket of a shot, he isn't a top tier dribbler, his passing ability is very average, his touch is average, he's not super quick, he's no great ball winner and doesn't posses magical skill. Yet somehow, he was seen as a standout youth player and won the Championship POTY. It was all very odd. He's a decent player and was physically ready for senior football at a young age, with a knack for turning up at the far post to score at Championship level. It's not all that different to Lukaku, who was probably the most hyped young player in history, without any really standout techincal ability. At lease Freddy Adu was genuinely skillful.

Exactly this 💯 Sess is suited perfectly to the inverted full back option. He isn’t blessed with blistering pace but he is still quick enough.

His first touch is great and has the athletic ability to hold up the ball in positions where Udogie has taken up.

Furthermore, Sessegnon’s finishing ability in comparison to Udogie is greater. If he gets on the end of a pass in the final third or a late run at the back post, he will pick up plenty of goals.

If you look at his goals for Fulham, the
majority were late runs into the box or a cross from the other side with Sess arriving late at the back post and knocking it in.

I wouldn’t be so quick to right him off under Ange. Let’s just hope he gets his injury issues behind him.
