Prof on COYS:

I feel bad for him however ……… he could have had this surgery a significant time ago and would now be ready to impress the new regime. Several times he was advised to have the surgery or he’d keep having hamstring issues and each time he declined. That’s his right, but his choice means he’s less of a victim of circumstance than it may superficially seem.
Good grief. All sounded so much of insecurity to me from him - over his body, over the medical department, possibly over his ability to retain a place in the squad if he's going to be out so long for a surgery and possibly over the club's/managerial direction on how he will be utilised etc etc.

He probably overthinks too much, like the way he plays. Sigh.

Think i would have second thoughts if our medical department told me to take an aspirin.....

Maybe we can shift him in January 🤔

Perhaps the clearest indication yet that Ange is happy for him to move on? Good to know we're looking to shift him as I don't think he's up to it and excluding Perisic is the worst of our current back 4 LB options. He had a string of about 4-5 7/10 games under Conte towards the end of 21/22 and that's been about it.

Feel for him. This will see him unable to train for about 12-16 weeks. Hopefully it makes things better for him in the long term though

I'd genuinely forgotten (not for the first time) that he's one of our players until I saw him in the squad list. No idea when he'll be back but let's hope he can stay fit and Ange can get a tune out of him or everyone just accepts that it's not going to work out and we loan/sell him.

Should be nowhere near the team, Destiney has done more in 4 games than he has done in 4 years, how long do we have to wait for it to 'work out', been near half a decade

We can see the difference in Bissouma compared to how he was with past managers. I say give him a chance with Ange (won't be first choice but ok back up) he has the attacking ability needed IMO

Definitely. He doesn’t have the same level of ability as Destiny but I can definitely see room for him as back up. He is athletic, has decent pace, and improved massively defensively. The challenge for him has always been keeping fit but I wouldn’t write him off yet.

100%.

Let’s reserve judgement until we see Sess play under an attacking manager. He put in some solid performances against top opposition (Liverpool and Brighton comes to mind). He made his name as a young, attacking left back with clever movement at Fulham. While he hasn’t translated that with us, he has improved leaps and bounds as a defender.

I personally don’t rate him and don’t think he’s nearly good enough but I’m more than happy to be wrong and see Ange turn him into the player we all thought he’d be a few years back. 😊

What i would say is the managers/coaches Sess has played under have not been suited to him.
Sess has the attributes to play under a progressive coach where wide players have multiple options on the ball and players moving off/past them. He has the athleticism and mobility to play for Ange.

Having said that, you would feel he really is drinking in the last chance saloon with us...

Deserves a fresh start once he’s recovered from the surgery. He’s home grown, and would be a handy squad player to have provided he can start playing at 100% feels like he’s been holding back for a long time for fear of injury.

The one thing I'd say about sess is he always looked scared of making a mistake which hampered his play massively. With a manager that will give him freedom to play and won't coach him from the touchline as Jose and Conte did i think he could do a shift. He's a talented footballer who's comfortable with the ball at his feet. Rather his recovery pace than say Davies

We shouldn't have any average players (players top six sides wouldn't want) or deadwood as back up in my opinion. There should be genuine competition.

Absolutely. There's a fragility to his mindset.
He goes great guns when in flow and not thinking much.
But when he feels under pressure, a lot expected of him, coming back from injury etc...he looks shy/timid at times...and he over-thinks things too much.

He just needs someone (hopefully Ange) to pull him to one side and tell him to roar, literally roar, and to not worry about making mistakes.
To break out from his shell.
He could be a really exceptional player if he could overcome his own perceived limitations. Then again, so could a lot of players.
But under Ange, these younger guys have got the best chance of coming through.

Relax, I'm not suggesting he should be taking Destiny's place but if he comes good and Ange likes him and he can serve a purpose off the bench then why not? Especially if Perisic might be going in January.

Hard to believe but he is still only 23! I have my doubts about him but he does have talent, his main issues have been fitness and confidence. If he can stay fit and Ange can fill him full of confidence there still could be a good player in there.

Reckon if Perisic goes in January then Sess might be one of the left wing backups until the end of the season. Unless someone comes in after the new year.
