Agree with all of your post, but especially this last bit. In the League, we have unarguably regressed for two seasons on the bounce* and despite this year's fantastic and hugely enjoyable CL run (which I will happily admit is the most fun I've ever had watching Spurs), I feel that that regression in the league has been in line with what my eyes are telling me watching us each week... that the quality we are showing on the pitch has been getting progressively worse for the last 2 seasons. But in the league you won't get away with having an inferior squad, not now when there's virtually nothing to choose between the elite level coaches. Let's be honest, we got 4th because of United and Arsenal's incompetency.
I feel that that deterioration in our performances is much more due to player recruitment and retention than it is to any mis-steps Pochettino has made in managing the squad and preparing the team on matchdays. Selling Kyle Walker in the summer of 2017 and then the disastrous lack of activity in the 3x transfer windows prior to this summer being the main lowlights. If we want to reverse this decline then even standing still in key areas of the squad during this transfer window (e.g. if we, say, sold Eriksen and only brought in Lo Celso as a replacement, rather than Lo Celso plus one additional creative midfielder) won't turn our fortunes around IMO, and we'll leave ourselves at risk of undoing much of our own hard work over recent years.
I'm still far from convinced that the club have both the will and the ability to deliver on that will in making the playing staff improvements that I think are vital this summer, and I'm hoping rather than expecting the club will surprise me for the better during the next 3 weeks. Would love them to prove me wrong.
