I don't think Bentancur's performances were all that brilliant. He's classy, but not quick, and like Biss, had a tendency to get caught on the ball. But, he previously didn't have anything like the options and movement around him that he'll have when he comes back. If he proves able to use those options and movement, then we'll have a very strong midfield squad.

My brother in Christ, just wait until you see him back on the pitch, how he glides, how the game just moves slower for him, and how he can do everything with ease and it’ll purify you like the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

Skipp would be nowhere near the squad if not HG
Not sure about 'no-where near the squad' as it stands we need 6-7 options and we have:
Maddison
Lo Celso
Sarr
Skipp
Bissouma
Bentancur
PEH

So he is one of those options right now especially with Lo Celso being injury prone and Bentancur being injured, 6th choice sure but 'no-where near the squad' is a tad harsh and that is coming from me who doesn't particularly rate him.

Lets hope Bentancur comes back strong and then I suppose in Jan or more likely next summer we'll look to move PEH on and possibly GLC and will bring in 1-2 new CM's to add more quality and depth, if Gallagher then I suppose as you say with Skipp being HG, unless he seriously up's his level he could be a bit surplus to requirements at some point in the future once we've made a few more signings and Bentancur is back but right now we need him.

Interesting to see how Skipp develops under Ange too or if he will be a 5th/6th choice long-term and kept around as a half decent home grown option.
we have Donley and Devine coming through so Skipp is dispensable, I would like us to sell PEH, GLC and Skipp and buy Eze (or Gallagher if Ange prefers him) next summer

Keep Biissuma as the pivot, Bentancur ans Maddison ahead. We must remember the fucking target shit football we seen when Bentancur was fit for us, I think he will be special. Always had a bit of Dembele about him. We had so many options in those midfield roles. Come January we need a backup for Maddison, and a CB. I’m not overly caring is we get a sticker or not.

I rated Bentancur as the second-best player at the club behind Kane last season, so in no way am I saying this to slag him off, but we need to keep realistic expectations for him this season.

It's entirely commonplace for players suffering ACL injuries to take months after returning to "full fitness" before they truly get back to their best. Look no further than the likes of Chiesa or Neto. Before their knee injuries, the former was genuinely world class and the latter considered one of the top players in the Premier League outside of the big clubs. Both looked like shadows of themselves for ages before eventually recapturing their form.

It won't be at all surprising if Bentancur struggles to find form or has a few injury setbacks. If so, it won't mean he's finished or that the club needs to move on from him -- just that this particular injury takes a long time to recover from properly. I sincerely hope he'll slot back in straightaway but it won't be a surprise if not.

He's still young though but definitely behind Sarr who has really pushed on lately (and now homegrown). It's a big season for Skipp because he doesn't really offer great competition to start atm. He's just a player who will come on and do a job but he needs to develop more. I think we need to be patient because not all players get their game right as quickly as others. More time working with Ange and we could see him progress. He's not long played a tournament with the England U21s. It's easy to forget how raw he still is. When Bentancur returns he will drop down the pecking order because atm Hojbjerg is ahead of him as first sub option.

I was watching a video the other day (I cant remember which it was, maybe a 442 one) about how the modern game is changing from having players actually moving the ball through transition via dribbling rather than passing it. Man City being the proponents of it. They highlighted Nunes being that type of player and bentancur is the same. If we look at our midfield Bissouma and Sarr do similar.

Basically if he gets up to speed when he comes back he'll be a great asset.

Can’t wait for his return, easily our best midfielder. Some of you need to just watch a few YouTube clips to see how brilliant he was before his injury.

Bentancur is very good.

But, I don't think he is better than Maddison as a #10.

I don't think he is better than Bissouma as a #6.

And, I think Sarr just about edges him as a #8. (Sarr has bags more energy required in that position)

But, I think Bentancur is the 2nd best player in the squad at all 3 positions, and the only player who could adequately fill in for any of those roles.

I was ridiculed this summer when I suggested Bentancur won't walk back into the XI when he is healthy, and I stand by that. He will have to earn it, and it won't be easy. Right now, I would rather see Sarr start games, with Bentancur coming in to close them out, than the other way around. Either way, when he gets back, we will have a very strong Midfield - and should be able to cover the AFCON break in January.
Can’t agree with this. I think Bentancur on last seasons form would be our best option at both 6 and 8. Bissouma has been great but Bentancur is world class

I think we definitely need to improve our sticker collection.

Bissouma is quite simply brilliant at not being caught on the ball. The way he receives a ball and then turns and beats his marker is absolutely elite.
