Good news if we get him. Essentially it means Romero can now break Matty Cash’s leg* in the return match and we have a ready made replacement for the 4 matches he’ll miss.

* I’d have said both legs** but Bentancur’s early return has earned Cash a half reprieve.

** I don’t really condone violence***

*** Unless it’s against Charlie Adam.

Ignoring the summer when almost all deals are done. Bit of a weird way to make your point.

I would have liked someone better on the ball but at only 21 and for only €25-30 mil it will be good business. Defensively he is already excellent and will only get better. Another savvy signing (if it happens) but will have to work on his ball playing ability under pressure tho as it could catch us out at his current level.

Does the summer window open soon?! Bit pointless talking about a window that's 6 months away. We are coming to the winter window, transfers are harder to do and not done as early as summer.

Bit pointless comparing 2 things that are worked differently by clubs.

As I said, we did do early business in the summer, but hopefully we continue that into the winter window also.

The transfer market can be very frustrating. For several years we had a really poor/non-existent transfer committee and we're still suffering the consequences now.

I think we've done very good business over the last 3 seasons but it needs to be continuous. I was disappointed in us not buying another centre back in January but ultimately we need to get the right player in.

This deal being finalised quickly will be a big step in the right direction.

I'm hoping for 2-3 players in this month, but if it doesn't include a centre back it'll be a very disappointing window.

I think you will be getting off to a very disappointing start to 2024.

If you're talking specifically about January windows then fair enough. Though this is true for pretty much every big deal.

Possibly. I'm confident we'll get the centre back deal over the line. For this season that is the one that is vital.

Even if the 2nd signing is a youngster, I'm fine with that. Our transfer activity has to be continuous.

He could improve dramatically just playing alongside better players in regards to his ball playing.

Today is a big one with this, Nice know we are close to pulling the trigger on this deal so unless there is progress with the Todibo deal, I think we should see Dragusin in by the end of the week.

I feel like this lad would be a better fit. Not sure either would get in ahead of Romero and Micky and Dragusin seems like by far the best fit to being 3rd CB

Doubt Todibo would be as ok with sitting out at first

Defending aerial threats will be a lot better with him, and he's very strong

More than happy if we sign him (or Todibo). Loves to defend, good in the air, aggressive in the tackle and looks like he can play either side.

I swear if they wanted €35m we'd offer €30m.

*Yes I know how negotiations work*
Can't believe people on here don't haggle, only an idiot pays the full asking price.

When I see this I always think people have lived very sheltered lives.

The only time you splash out is with something one of a kind or in high demand (limited supply), because with an investment like that you're likely to gain more.

Infact if we weren't desperate I'd bet we could save few bob haggling towards the end of the window.

Starting at 25m instead of 20m shows we want to get the deal done quickly.
