Player Watch: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg

Needs a proper defensive midfielder next to him to get the best out of him. I have said it since the start.
Delaney isn't exactly that.

I think with a back 3 he shines, which gets him more freedom to be everywhere he sees.

Surprised by him. I thought he was just a hard grafting stopper. Not seem him as in any way creative. Great to see Denmark stepping up in the absence of Christian

Clearly a really good player that was over played and in a mess of a team last year, especially second half of the season.

Seen something earlier on Twitter with one his team mates saying that it’s unfair he doesn’t get a chance to take free kicks as in training he bangs them in?

Has anyone got visual evidence of this ?

17 key passes last season in Premier League, 9 key passes in Euro ?
I'm unsurprised by this. He is deployed mainly in a defensive recycling role for us whereas there is now a creative opening for Denmark so he has to step up

PEH has the most assists in the Euro's, joint with Zuber (Switzerland), on 3.
I think the fact that teams do not sit deep against the Danes helps and also allows PEH to break forward into more open space. He is obviously a decent player but this stat surprises me.

He's had a great tournament. I think we are under utilising him as a DM.

He is a really good presser of the ball, I think we were under utilising him because Jose didn't like his players to press in the middle that much, instead he preferred his players to contain the middle and press on the wing, I think under a modern coach he'd be awesome at winning that ball back high up the pitch.

Only when it became clear he was leaving though.
Didn't they start downplaying his ability midway through the 2019-20 season, when he hinted that he wanted to leave? (or maybe I imagined that)

I loved how everyone was reporting that Southampton wanted £35m (in hindsight that would have been a very fair price), yet we paid less than half that at £15m. Still only 25 and seems to be a future captain in the making.

Is he the latest player we've bought as a DM, who we're now saying 'needs a DM to thrive'

I think he's a good player on many levels, and we're lucky to have him. I think Nuno will enjoy having him around.

Still think there are questions around midfield though. Would be nice if Skipp turns out to be absolutely brilliant...

Skipp needs a DM to thrive.

Think we paid 15m and they got Walker-Peters who worked out well for them.
