So to be clear, we could have activated a release clause of €45 million on January 1. Now, if this does indeed go through, it will be for more than that amount due to our not knowing it expired 12 days before the transfer window shuts? Meanwhile the player has missed a month of playing in the single biggest problem position at spurs. If true, that is absolutely pathetic. Again.

Credit to Porro, bet he's as sick as we are if he really wants to come, which he does. Not heard a whisper of discontent from hi min the media ala some other transfers recently (ahem, Gordon).

Glad it's the 30th and not the 31st. Sporting are playing a blinder, this is the sort of thing we've done in the past to clubs and they're making sure they get the most they can and I don't blame them. I had feared that Sporting were gonna do what United did to Madrid over De Gea where they dragged it so it was too late just to keep him but with it being the day before deadline, I'm actually hopeful it will get resolved.

Someone on our end is giving authority to the negotiations- I don’t know if that is Levy, but it seems like he is calling the shots from our end.

And those intermediaries are instructed by their employers. They don't go into negotiations doing whatever they like
But neither of you KNOW its Levy! At this moment in time, its all on Sporting, they've moved the goal posts, not Levy, not Paratici, not Doris the tea lady!

When you spend 30 days negotiating the deal, you open yourself up to the other team pulling nonsense like this. Sporting know we really want the player and now hold all the cards.

15 pages in Hour and half wow!
Maybe they want him there while negotiating the replacement but who knows.
One thing I know is never deal with Portuguese clubs again.

Sporting not playing nice but doing what is to be expected when they hold the cards. Makes you realise that this has been delayed all the way along by Sporting not Spurs.

This is what baffles me. OK fair enough if in this instance, it's not directly Levy's fault but he's created this legend around himself, he's traded on that for far too long and (IMO) his style is now old hat. I't wouldn't surprise anyone at all if you could trace these current issues backwards and end up at an unwillingness to pony up. Of course there's negotiating to be done but can it be taken too far?

As others have said, you want, you buy, sometimes haggling and brinkmanship can be taken too far. And a tactic used too often. Edging isn't as popular as it once was.

In this instance, is Levy being Levy'd. Again. His ways are too well known and football has wised up to it. This is just one of the reasons his time is up. We need fresh ideas, new methods and someone with a clear and measured idea as to the ethos and philosophy of the club who is willing to implement those ideas and take the club forwards.

You just know Levy fancy himself as the best negotiator in the business. Sadly, his way of doing business is so outdated and detrimental to our success.

He's probably pissed off most chairmen in Europe at this point, and they probably fancy giving some back.

I mean I'm no business expert but when somebody has a product you desperately need and they desperately don't want to sell, again I am unskilled in the art of business and economics but something is telling me that they don't offer you a discount.

Exactly, the common denominator in all of these cases, is us.
They’re always going to be the common denominator when they’re the club your attention is solely focused upon!

I’m sure Everton fans are saying similar having lost Danjuma and previously Sissoko in similar manner.
