Really impressed with him today, no hiding at all. Bit conservative with some of his passing but as he’s had about 20 minutes training with his teammates that’s entirely sensible.

Very promising start and very much looks like he fits the system.

Signing players that fit what the manager wants, what madness is this?!?? 😂😂😂

He looked very composed, decent in the ball and he is lightning quick. Considering this was his first ever match for us and he lost his CB partner in the first half I thought that he was superb. Very impressed.

Some times you need a player to settle for months to see their best. All, VDV required is 3 training sessions and he was perfect all game. Shame he had that deflection for the 2nd goal.

When we bought him, https://datamb.football/ showed he was not aerially that great. I think data is wrong may be in his case. I was looking out for this part of his game. He absolutely bossed it aerially.

Its early days but I will stick my neck out and say, What a great signing - Absolutely delighted that , scouting team got this signing perfect.

Well impressed with him, can’t wait for them all to get an understanding as a defensive unit. Didn’t get much protection from Skippy either so we can only get better from here.

Him, Udogie and Maddison are going to be big fan favourites this season!

Looked a little lost for the first 10 mins but really grew into the game. Looked lime he'd been here a season by the end.
Good signs.

Nathan from The Extra Inch put out an analysis video on VdV (it’s behind their Patreon paywall which is well worth paying for if you like the data and tactics side of things) and seems to think that the bad in the air part might be more to do with how aerial duel wins and losses are counted rather than VdV actually being bad in the air.

Didnt know - thanks
I found it odd that, someone who is as tall & as athletic as him and technically good, could be bad aerially.
May be its a data oddity. Probably something to keep an eye on over next games. Still have to see how we does in crosses & corners.

As things stand, VDV career has a huge runaway ahead

Very impressive on 3 days of training and having another center back partner switched midstream.
