It's hard to see Levy sanctioning the likely fee of £40m plus for Laporte, when Tapsoba would only be a few quid more. Goes against his MO of younger players.

I think it's looking like Romero, Dier, van de Ven, + one other (either ambitious or bargain basement). If Kane stays my gut says bargain basement. Rest of the defenders & Reguilon will be off, leaving Davies as LB cover.

I'd bring in Tapsoba since he can play either side of the defence and would mean minutes for Dier are likely minimal. Fund it by selling PEH, Reggie, Sanchez & generate some pennies from a few others.

Thx for update even though news on Tapsoba not what we want. I don’t know why we’d have ever thought price would change there.

Hope we move quick for Sutalo or Laporte if that’s the case. Can’t just be VdV. I think I’d rather Sutalo given where we are despite the risk.

Have to disagree.....Laporte is an experienced proven PL CB that has played at the highest level. We are crying out for some seniority and experience there to steady the ship...even Romero is only 25 and not the most level headed character. I think Laporte and VDV signings would compliment each other superbly. Add Tosin as a 4th choice and we actually look solid there for the first time in years.

As a side note - I have been a little bit surprised/disapointed at the strong focus on only younger, unproven, inexperienced CBs...they all seem to be between 6'3-6'5 as well....maybe height is what really matters according to our new data driven approach.....

The 3 CBs we should be revolving our long term future around are Romero, Tapsoba and Van De Ven.

If we only end up with Micky, regardless of how much I like him I'll be hugely disappointed with the club and how poor their attitude has been to our defensive frailties for so long

It's bizarre with Tapsoba, really doesn't sound like Leverkusen are asking for crazy amounts. Could understand if it was £60m plus they were wanting. Even so, as much as I rate Laporte i'd rather we brought in another right footed defender who can play on either side if we're bringing in Micky.

Why couldn't a left-footer play on either side, in theory?
