Just to clarify, I've heard nothing new to suggest this won't happen. My posts tonight thus far have been my opinion only.

I'm just frustrated that we have failed to bring in a CB before we flew out. People saying it doesn't matter because the tour is light work etc is farcical, he has been and will continue to work them incredibly hard! The players are loving it so far and the earlier CB's joined up with this group the better. I am personally gutted and surprised that we haven't brought one in before the tour because I was told several times that one would arrive by the time we flew out today.

(The last few year’s on this site)

Early in transfer window, everyone says:

”I’m loving the early business Spurs are doing for once. Finally!!!!! It seems that Levy has finally turned a corner. I didn’t say exactly the same thing last year: this is a new experience”

2 weeks later:

“FFS. ****”

I can’t work out if I hate you, him or me the most…

Hopefully it gets wrapped up in the next couple of days and we can fly him out. Might miss the first game but can then play the next two. Not as good as it could have been but not the end of the world if that transpires

100%

Lets not all pee our pants just yet. I share that its frustrating and fully get Hotspur88's feelings on this when it looked like at least one would be in, in time for the tour.

The fact that we have had zilch "negative" ITK on this deal is somewhat reassuring at this stage too.

Just a thought, would visas be an issue? They'll all need work visas etc. for each country. If all the travel paperwork needed to be sorted a few days out from traveling perhaps it just wasn't possible to get it sorted before the team left. What's the point of signing only for him to be left behind?

Probably just clutching at straws.

Also Spence and Reguillon are back and who knows if Rodon could be good under Ange so it’s actually fairly different defence to last season but of course we all agree we need ideally 2 new CB signings and I think we will get them sooner rather than later.

Who knows we might confirm VDV next week and he works on fitness and setting into the country etc at hotspur way and joins up with the team when they’re back.

Wouldn’t be the end of the world, good players as long as they keep themselves fit will slot in and adapt to a new team quickly, pre season tour is mostly about building fitness more than anything and yes getting use to new tactics but Ange's style of football isn’t as complex and rigid as conteball so I just have a feeling we will be ok 👍
Hmmm, I’d personally only really expect Spence to have any long term impact at the club from those 3. Reguillon was truly poor in the season before all his injury/health issues and Rodon has been pretty much a non-event since he stepped through the door, hasn’t done much wrong but he hasn’t for a moment looked up to our level either.

General point though I’m with you, it’s not the same defence even at this point without a CB signing. It does need to be done in the next week though or it begins to really be to the detriment of us being ready for the season and the player having long enough to settle in. I’ve played in brand new put together centre of excellence sides and even with good players it took at least a month for good coaches to get us playing like a team. Any CB needs at least 3-4 weeks in our environment and with his teammates to settle in physically and mentally

Maybe the only way to look at it now is they go on tour Ange sees how bad the defence and tells Levy that not only do we need to buy VDV but also Topsoba and one other. Great thinking by Ange hopefully it works and we get all our defensive targets.

What if we actually heard that Micky wasn't going to cut short his break after his international duty, so he wouldn't make it on tour anyways?

Maybe then we're not in a rush to get this done and can wait a few extra days?

The premier league schedule doesn't start for an ENTIRE MONTH, I can't believe how much this place has melted down over this.

Bringing in a CB has been the PRIORITY since the end of LAST season finished & you think, to be a MONTH before the NEW season starts WITHOUT one, is something to be chilled about 🤷🏼‍♀️

To me, considering the ITK that the deal is done, suggests that he wasn't going to make the tour anyway due to rest after U-21 duty, or Wolfsburg wanting to get someone in to replace him before letting us complete the deal. Or both.

Either way I feel pretty relaxed about the situation. It would have been best to have him here for the tour, because obviously it would, but if there is something out of our control, so be it, as long as it (or another 1-2) gets done within the next couple of weeks. I'm not having it that this is some Daniel Levy plot to fuck up pre-season. There are deals with other clubs this season that have dragged out already, and I'm pretty sure they weren't down to Tottenham Hotspur's recruitment strategy. It's not always possible in this game to just get things done when you'd like, and it goes for us and other clubs too. Can only imagine rabid Bayern fanbase are shitting the bed over Kane not making their tour also.

Waiting and seeing on this one before reacting one way or the other. This is one of those situations where the worst case scenarios (us balking at the cost, Levy risking the deal/dragging it out to shave a few million off) are predictable and somewhat likely given our history.

On the other hand, there's a range of plausible more positive explanations (trying to get both him and Tapsoba within budget, VDV coming back from Intl's and needing rest, Ange choosing to focus on assessing the current squad in the Asia/Aus tour) that all add up to being equally as likely.

One that occurred to me given today's ITK - could it be that Ange sees something in one of our current CBs (say, Joe Rodon), that enables us to spend an additional 5-10m on Tapsoba in the next week instead of VDV, and prioritize getting him in first?

I think it's just like Soloman where he was due for a medical but it got pushed back. No reason given.

The three deals so far were all ‘win’ deals for Danny so I really hope it’s not old negotiating habits returning with these absolutely key positions
Agree but it’s us as fans saying we need it. What IF Ange has said let me see what I have first? This could be why we haven’t pulled the trigger

All of this was said last year when we needed two centre backs. We brought in a solitary stop gap that we didn't pay a penny for. When's the last time Levy didn't leave us 1-2 positions short? What does the evidence tell you?
Yeah mate, I look at the collective rather than an individual. Last year our no.1 target appeared to be Bastoni and it didn't materialize... Lenglet was bought as a stop gap.

ITK have all said we getting a CB and possibly 2. Let's be patient.

Ps. Over the years we get those voices of there's still X amount of days...... I'm not trying to be one of those. For whatever reason I'm feeling calm on a CB coming in soon enough.
