Encouraging to me that Liverpool were allegedly in for this guy.

Generally speaking, they're no mugs when it comes to transfers.

Didn't pursue it though which worries me. They are chasing Colwill so perhaps that's why.

Yet they decided not to go for him

Likely due to the fact that Henderson and Fabinho are probably leaving (after Keita, Ox and Milner already left) meaning that midfield has become a much higher priority for them - especially as they already have VVD, Konate, Matip and Gomez at CB.

He seems to have the raw abilities that would suit Liverpool's style of play. They currently have VVD, Konate, Matip and Gomez but with Matip in the last year of his contact and VVD 32 now, they are probably looking at succession plans. If they shift someone this summer, wouldn't be a total surprise if they come in and got it wrapped up fast.

You are talking contracts north of 30m. Ive worked on contracts ranging from 500k to 50m. The legal aspect is an absolute Ballache.

Legal people always want to be extra pedantic.
The legal people have to be pedantic. The potential consequences of not making every last detail of a contract legally watertight probably don't bear thinking about.

Literally our fucking job - because clients definitely don't hesitate to come to us when an eventuality warned about/risk flagged was either ignored or dismissed at the time only to actually occur.

Why didn't you draft for this?

Main issue for VdV at Liverpool would be game-time when they already have VVD, Konate, Matip and Gomez.

He'd get games but hard to see him being guaranteed first choice there for a good while (basically until VVD leaves) and what he needs at this stage his development is consistent games.

We're a much better fit for him in that regard, even if he's got a better chance of winning stuff at Liverpool in the short term.

True and I have been there too. But you have to look at yourselves when your competitors are faster at contract completion. My point is it is not the legals but Levy complicating matters.

We don't know that. It could just be timing.

I've upset the legal community on here though 🤪

I’m sure footballs clubs have standard contracts drawn up for players maybe that might get amended slightly for each deal. Clubs get deals over the line within the last few days, even hours of a window, that might be subject to paperwork, but normally gets confirmed the next day.

More likely, we’re trying to get players out the door first

The silence of everything to do with the CB situation is the intriguing and annoying part.
The start of the week we were told it was very close.
What has happened

The longer it drags on, there’s a real possibility we start the season with Dier at CB.

Season is 4 weeks away today.

Feels like still a while, but then you have to factor in adjustment period etc.

Bentancur and Kulu didn't take long. It really depends on the player. Some never adjust.

plus they need to get his NI number and bank details. Then it sits with HR, fuck knows what they do all day, then his induction will need to sheduled and he will have to do the data protection training online. Its a nightmare
