He's certainly a good player, but I think he's a Vertonghen backup/alternate. If we're to improve our showing in Europe and of course improve our options if/when first choice guys are injured, these are the kinds of moves to make. Realistically, the Europa is far and away our best chance at winning a CL spot, so I disagree with those saying we shouldn't necessarily improve our squad options.

I'd say we have a better chance of improving our league position by one place than we have of winning the Europa.

Have to admit I feared the worst when I ran my cursor over the link and it read:

I hope Wimmer will be a useful addition to our back line which badly needs strengthening, TBH I don't know much about him, but hope he fits in and wish him well. However I'm not sure buying multiples of defenders around the 1-8m (Yedlin-Fazio) mark is really going to be the answer to our defensive woes, what we need is some real quality defenders like Mousachio who was the original target before Fazio was acquired instead. If we're not careful we're going to end up with two complete teams, neither of which will be capable of either winning the EL or getting a top 4 place...

I disagree, unless we manage to get the balance right this summer. Don't let that one position in the table fool you, the gap between us and the current four is very disproportionate from that one rank in the table. Meanwhile, there are sides in the final and even winning it which we should be capable of beating. We don't lack the quality to compete for that tournament, we've just lacked the will, depth, and balance.

He was compared to Hummels at the beginning of the season, and now many think he is playing at a far superior level to Hummels. Bayern and Dortmund forums both talked about him. He's a phenomenal purchase.
