Yeah, fairly poorly rated by the neutrals.

He was a top keeper last decade for club and Country. But its time to part ways

I don't want to see another goalkick from him that doesn't reach the half way line

He was the best "sweeper keeper" (not best overall GK) in the world for a while, back when we were playing a high line. On the odd occasion that he was late to the ball / caught out of position, he got hammered for it by pundits, yet the stats always showed that he was cutting out many many attacks (i.e. preventing shots / chances) for every error, so his net benefit to the team's defensive record was huge. He also had elite stats for one-on-ones. He has played very differently in recent years, due to a combination of us not playing such a high line, us not pressing as aggressively and him aging.
He had the best stats in the PL for shot-stopping (based on xG /xG saved stats) two seasons in a row under Poch...during a period when he was heavily criticised for making 2-3 clear blunders per season, but preventing something like 10 more goals than he should have compared to other decent GKs (so more than making up for his mistakes).
Clearly his stats have declined in recent years.
when was he best sweeper keeper in the world, what year?

Not my fight, but I do remember in the first two seasons after he joined he was always very quick at getting to anything punted over the CBs. Whether or not he was the best in the world at it is rather hard to substantiate though.

His first 2-3 seasons with us. I don't have the stats to hand, but at they time they were readily available (but also readily ignored, because we weren't part of the "big 4" so the media didn't like us).

Off the top of my head, his success rate when rushing out was something like 98% while the average keeper's success was more like 60%.

I always think of him as a top, top keeper and he made saves that made me gasp. What a guy! Will always remember him with fondness. Thanks, Hugo 🤍

Cant believe people are discussing wether or not Hugo has been a top keeper.
Few would disagree that he has been one of the top keepers in world football last 10-12 years.
The thing is, hes past his prime. We all saw it last season. Turning 37 right?
Love Hugo, Spurs legend. But everything has an end and now its time for Vicario to take over.
Hope he finds himself a club that needs him. And I would really like to see Hugo back at Spurs someday (coaching or something else).

Any news on him leaving? Expensive player to have on the bench
I can't see us keeping him + Forster, but it's possible Lloris would be content with sticking around for a year (might even fancy himself to retain the starting spot), and then get a juicy signing bonus as a free agent next summer.

I certainly remember him bailing out AVB plenty when we played an extremely high line, and weren’t very good at it.
I seem to remember him coming out and making an audacious sliding tackle in a north London derby??

Unfortunately the annual records for "best sweeper keeper" were burned in an imaginary fire.

He was a bloody good sweeper keeper when we first signed him, though. Funny that back then he was seen as the "new breed of keeper" since he was so quick out of the box and protected our high line, whereas now he's seen as dinosaur as he's shit with his feet.

The game has changed so much in the past decade.

In response to mutual terminations or agreements of ending contracts early

Odd that we didn’t do it before he came back for pre season like we seem to be for perisic. I doubt Lloris causes any issues but it gives everyone clarity on what’s next.

Nice! This is the ruthlessness we need for a proper quick rebuild under Ange.

Also I love Hugo for the 10 years of service to us, he was an absolutely phenomenal goalkeeper for us for the most part, however i really think it will benefit the squad and our club hugely if right now we can move Hugo on and have a new captain going into next season, ideally Kane but if he leaves too then a combination of Sonny and Bentancur would be nice.

Proper fresh new dressing room and culture and obviously a talented young new goalie in Vicario.

Training with us. A nice send off, amongst his friends and colleagues... as he finalises a new club. Classy if you ask me.

I think he wants to stay fit using a club's facilities and also say goodbye to people at the club. Probably waiting until Kane and Sonny come back.

He deserves the chance to say goodbye surely?
