Net Spend is such a weird thing to argue about, it's a pretty redundant aspect, It's about how much the club makes overall and yes clubs can make a lot of money through selling players but it's not the only metric and yet football fans argue it like crazy. Like Liverpool fans point to it but completely disregard the obscene amount they spend on Agent fees.

If I'm honest I feel like its something that places like sky throw out and go here this will give the plebs something to argue about.

Net spend is our transfer budget. Or the money we have available to spend on players without sales.

To be honest we could have a net spend of zero yet have a fantastic transfer window bringing in better players than leave. Or a massive net spend and bring in crap.

It shouldn't really matter that much to supporters what the number is.

The only time fans should care about cost of a player is when for example, somebody says - well just pay the extra 20 mill on Lo Celso
just get it done

They don't take into account that it would mean we can't get another transfer we wanted over the line. That's the only time we need to be concerned by the figures in my opinion.

Yeah, or when you think of the overall picture. If you have a club that is constantly losing money by poor decisions then a high net spend isn't brilliant. We clearly are a well-run club in every other way so the net spend figure shouldn't really be that important at this point. The important thing is if we get the right players or not.

Yeah we will only spend 200 mill regardless of anything if we have the resources to do so, we in the last 20 years have not been a club that ever takes financial risk. So supporters shouldn't be concerned in the unlikely scenario we spend 200 mill.

We should always care about the cost. Whether it's a few extra quid on a season ticket, your Sky subscription going up, a bit more on the cost of those trainers or that insurance or whoever else is sponsoring. Eventually it all comes out of the pocket of the man on the street.

Spurs could not sign a single player, sell eriksen for 120 and all the things you said would still happen:LOL:

I'm not that bothered. I don't measure a transfer window till the end of the season. Even then players can take longer to bed in.
But fans are expecting us to spend a fortune. If we don't then they lose their shit at the end of the window. I am just saying we should keep our expectations low and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.
Yes itk says we have money to spend. They did last summer too. Which we may well have. But we can have all the money in the world but it doesn't mean we sign someone.

Absolutely. But I think there's a difference between realising that we won't sign Ndombele, Lo Celso, AWB and Zaha (for example) without money coming in from selling players and being fixated at the actual net spend figure which some people seem to be (not you).

The trouble is if we just cough up too much on Lo Celso it could have a knock on affect on others. I'm sure Lyon would look at it and think "hey if they're willing to pay x amount on him then they should pay x amount on N'Dombele'. We also dont want to show teams that we have plenty of money to spend.

Am I the only one sad enough to stay up and watch Lo Celso, a guy we've not even signed yet, playing against some farmers?

I can definitely see why Poch likes him. He's technically excellent and seems to have forged a really strong partnership with Messi.
