My hope is that injuries is the genuine reason why GLC doesn't play much for us.
His quality is obvious. He has enough to compete with Madders for his place. If we were to go out and secure someone with a similar role we wont do much better than him.
However given he always seems to perform for Arg it's hard not to suspect there is more to the injury-story. Maybe something contractual? who knows.

Running the show so far V Costa Rica in Argentina's second game of the international break. Cute also starting.

He has been here for years and has never put in a match winning performance like for instance Maddison has this season. I just don't see any future for him now and he ought to go in the summer.

That’s just not right though, GLC ran the show against Bournemouth when we won 3-1. From memory his goals and assists per minute played this season are on par with Maddison’s.

Yeah, Id like to see Lo Celso given more minutes. He can’t be that much of a downgrade from our current midfield starters and primary subs. Give him a proper chance. If nothing else, it will raise his profile, especially if he plays well.

I find it odd, as he has a lot of attributes Ange values: work ethic, presses hard, technical skill, good range of passing and an eye for goal. Yet, be it injuries or otherwise, this guy has never been given a run of games to find rhythm and showcase his potential.

If the usual suspects start lethargically against Luton, I hope Ange has the courage to sit them down at HT and give someone else a chance who might be biting at the bit to play.

great player but his always getting injured, I think some of best football we have played this season he was at the heart of.

I'd like to keep him but can't imagine him wanting to stay. His injuries aren't really much of an issue since he never gets a look in when he's fit either.

Bar the Brighton game this season, Bournemouth this season, plus us absolutely ripping villa to shreds until benta went off which Gio was a huge part of. He also scored an incredible goal against city...

I don't remember it like that, he had a good game and so I think we remember it as special.
He's a good player but I simply don't think we would be doing the best thing by keeping him.

only ever seems to be spanish clubs pleading poverty in for him so unless we get a serious offer i'd be inclined to keep him and run his deal out.

Hes only on 70k a week, by all accounts he's very happy and settled in London now, just had a baby and his wife loves it here. I would offer him a 3 year extension personally at the same money. He has a part to play

But, It is down to what Ange wants, and it seems like Ange doesn't really want to play him much which is a shame

Two assists, one among the best passes of the season. Was supporters MOTM, let’s be honest he had more than a good game.

This argument is completely logical and from every angle should be true...

... but my god how many times have our 2nd string played badly and seemingly without effort.

Will always be a 'what if...' kind of player in my eyes.

Top top quality when playing for Argentina but never quite seems to consistently do it in a Spurs shirt. Whether this is due to injuries or the increased pace of premiership football I don't think we'll ever truly know but he needs to move on for the sake of his career and we need to focus on the future rather than trying to ram a square peg into a round hole in the hope that it'll finally fit.

2023-24:
Two assists in our win against Bournemouth - does this not count as "match winning"?
Scored in our draw against Man City - not match winning, but earned us a good point against the reigning PL & European champions.
He has a goal contribution every 104 minutes in the PL, compared to every 123 minutes for Maddison (or every 99 minutes pre-injury). That's very similar output to Maddison and he has backed it up by scoring 1 in 2 for Argentina this year.

2020-21:
Scored a key goal in a win against Man City.

2019-20:
Was widely considered to be our standout player after the COVID pause, and was vital to us clinching European qualification. A lot of people seem to have short / selective memories on this, as it is routinely overlooked by the large majority of fans.

I wouldn't mind that either, but If he was to be replaced these days £70k gets you young, potential roll of the dice (but we have been quite good at this recently). Double that gets you a pretty decent standard of player. Treble that (roughly) gets you a top player.

Also to be fair to him he has been fit for the last couple of weeks and he missed the main internationals he would have been desperate to be involved in, winning the world cup. If he had been there the chances are that Mac Allister wouldn't be a world cup winner.
