Funny how Gazza isn't on the list, but that was a player we brought just as he was emerging as a star. Nowhere near the finished article.

You're 41, I'll forgive you. But Ossie and Villa signing in 78. THAT WAS BIG. that was the start of Foreign players here.

I take the point but in 1994, you had Cantona and Schmeichel in the league as really good foreign players. Maybe Kanchelskis. And the three of them weren't exactly universally known before they came to England. There was no influx. On the opening day of the Premier League, I think there was something like 13 non British players playing and a lot of those were Scandanavians who weren't too high profile. After the Europe ban, and even before it to an extent, very few top international players came to England.

Klinsmann changed that. Within a couple of years you had Bergkamp, Gullit, Vialli, Zola and so on coming to England. That signing started a trend.

Until I see Bale walk onto our pitch on matchday in a Spurs kit I won't get excited. Just don't trust Zidane or RM to screw his move over no matter how much they want him gone.

I just really need to know the terms behind the loan deal... there has to be some sort of option/obligation? Otherwise whats the point?

The point would be, he could be the difference between us getting Champions League or not for next season, and also it gets the fans off Levy's back for a while :), and we always have an option to buy, just stump up the money they want

Sky Sports:

BALE, REGUILON TO FLY TO LONDON ON FRIDAY

Gareth Bale
will fly from Madrid to London tomorrow before signing for Tottenham.

Plans are in place for Bale and his team-mate Sergio Reguilon to fly together on a private jet from Madrid.

Negotiations have continued to progress well overnight and whilst no agreement has been signed, a deal is expected to be concluded before the two Real players head for London.

The 31-year old Welsh international owns his own private jet, but it would be expected for Tottenham to organise the players’ transit.

He owns a private jet?? Crazy fool...its well known that if it flies, floats or fucks..rent it!

it's done. contract is agreed between the clubs. he's doing his medical right now, unless they've been feeding him steroids or exposed him to a significant amount of radiation, he's ours.

sorry just woke up, so is it just a 1 year loan? any option for second?

Who knows. Pointless speculating as it could be one of four options (1 yr loan no option, 1 yr loan option, 2 yr loan, purchase).

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Stoofington

Yep, and media clearly don’t know since they think he and Sergio have had about 15 medicals since midday yesterday in all sorts of different locations.

I've had two kids since then!! My 5 year old can't wait to see him ☺

I've inflicted Spurs on my little fella who is 8. I said to him a few weeks ago when Doherty signed that we'd signed a player and he said "Griezmann? Neymar? Bale?"

Matt Doherty, as good as a signing as he is, was a bit of a let down after that.

Can't wait to tell him about this one.

Whatever the length of the deal is people are going to fixate on it and complain. The way I look at it is that if it's a one year loan, then there's some sort of financial flim-flammery going on which makes it a solution to issues that are way beyond our understanding and regardless of that, he'll still be here the year after anyway. It could be any number of things and right now, who really gives a shit. Sometimes we delve way too deeply into things.

Massive signing but not in the same bracket as bale status wise. I'd say Klinsmann was the last and arguably only world renowned player we have signed.
Last perhaps but not only. Surely Lineker as England’s main striker and Barcelona star was bigger than the Klinsmann signing, and potentially this one too. And of course there’s the British record fee for Greaves.

I couldn’t give a flying fuck what number they give him and even less of a flying fuck about what contract he’s signing, just get him!!!

No matter how the deal is structured, this will be the case.

I don't get why people worry about it. Do people seriously think Levy, for all his faults, is suddenly going to sign a deal that has Spurs taking it up the gary? Of course he isn't. He's never been a mug in that way so why insinuate that he'd sign off on a rotten deal, if he did things like that then what sort of father does that make him :sneaky:
