Tottenham have agreed a €30m deal for Lamela, says James

By Ian Cruise (@Ian_Cruise) | Saturday, August 24, 2013

Tottenham have agreed a €30m deal for Erik Lamela.
The White Hart Lane club have been chasing the Roma striker for a number of weeks and Laure James says the clubs have now agreed the terms of a sale.
talkSPORT’s expert in all things French and Italian told The Sports Bar: “The news is they’ve agreed a €30m deal, plus €5m in bonuses, subject to a medical. But the first big stumbling block in terms of negotiations has been done.”

If the deal had been agreed as the above reports say them he wouldn't be in the their squad.

Lots of players are named in squads. That doesn't mean he'll play or even be on the bench.

Could just be in the squad to play his last game and say goodbye to the fans? Leave them with a win on good spirits.

This. By the looks of things that's just the travelling party.

Could be like Kevin Doyle last night. Wolves are set to sell him, yet he's been starting for them every week. Professional who gets on with his job no matter what.

Townsend looks really creative. I'd love to see the boy given a chance in the side.

I think people have a different perception of creative. I agree Townsend should get more game time and right now probably deserves a run in the team. However IMO he's not creative. A player like Silva (man city) is creative. He can play defence splitting passes and also great in the hole between midfield and defence. This is the type of player we're crying out for.

Got a foreboding feeling about this deal going tits up. Just don't understand logic in waiting. After Willian fiasco we should be doing everything in our power to wrap it up

Depends. Capoue was included in the Toulouse squad and Chirches in the Steau squad. If he plays it will be telling, but usually squads are made up of all fit and "available" players.

Actually Capoue wasn't in the Toulouse squad for their first game of the season. I remember posting a link from the Toulouse website at the time. I think earlier in the week their manager said he would be involved because at the time he was still a Toulouse player.

What about the lobbed cross to Paulinho? The low cut back to Soldado? The vision and courage to go on (dare I say it) a Bale-esqe knifing through the defence and scoring from a good way out. Andros in my oniion, currently deserves a chance to cement a place in the side on merit.

I remember signing Routledge, who looked excellent in pre-season; he got injured, Lennon came in and the rest is history. Maybe Lennon's recent knock is the chance for it to repeat itself.

He was named in the squad by their manager and pulled when the deal was close.

For me, creativity comes from playing elegantly weighted passes, through balls, the ability to dribble in and out of trouble and usually their main focus is setting up others for shots on goal.

Townsend has really turned a corner in regards to his end product. His passing in and around the box is much sharper, he's showing the ability to make wonderful goals out of nothing and I think he's really starting to blossom as a result of the confidence in his ability. However, despite all of these great attributes to his game, he's not a creative player. He's a direct winger, much in the mold of Bale in that he wants to run directly at his man, dribble around or go at him at pace and then either cut in or get to the byline and deliver a final ball. In my mind, it's a great thing to have on the wings as he has the ability to keep the width but a defender always has to account for his ability to cut in.

It's the same as if you look at Walcott. I would never claim him to be a creative player but he still puts together quality assist totals. You could claim he's a creator of goals because of his crossing but I wouldn't claim him to be a defense-splitting creative talent.

Remy Cabella, Alan Dzagoev, Eriksen and Pjanic would be guys I consider to be more creative talents given the way they model their game and the approach they take to it. Pass first, set others up, if the opportunity presents itself, take the shot.
