A little confused why we’re going ahead with this when we can’t shift Aurier or Doherty and have a third right back in Tanganga.

Doherty isnt good enough, Aurier leaves for free next year and Tanganga is a makeshift RB, so either we get one this year for 30M or scramble for one next year for 50M plus, that's what FB's go for these days.

The review from the “South American football expert” on Sky Sports just then wasn’t very encouraging lol basically saying he was named after royal jelly and that he had a “shaky” start to his career and “Tottenham are spending a lot of money for promise”. Oh joy!

hopefully the guy is talking out of his rear.

Tim Vickery - superb knowledge of the South American game

All I remember about Tim Vickery was him raving about what a player Paulinho was and how we had signed the Brazilian Frank Lampard.

In short his opinion counts for shit.

Ah great - more joy lol

Our only hope is his knowledge of Emerson is more based on his experiences for Brazil than Betis

from my understanding for Betis his defensive work has won more praise than his attacking work for example which is said to be fairly conservative

For Koeman to pick him ahead of his boy Dest says a lot. We've really taken advantage of the situation at Barca here. They simply couldn't refuse the chance to make a quick sale on this one. Maybe waiting until the end of the window was the best approach since Barca would have hoped to shift lesser squad players earlier in the window. Now they've lost a first team player and we have capitalised.

That may have been a showcase start in that Dest has started 2 out of their 3 La Liga matches.

Tim Vickery loves the sound of his own voice and loves the fact people think he knows a lot about South American football.

He can say what he wants and most people don’t care enough to even check if it’s right.

Tim is all right. I like hearing him on Trans Europe Express. On Paulinho...I think he just came to us at the wrong time. He did end up making his way to Barcelona and into the Brazilian national team. He had a good career in the end. Just not with us, sadly. On Emerson, just looking forward to seeing him. It's only this year that La Liga is really accessible in the States so I am completely out of the loop on La Liga players. Just going to trust Paratici for now.

Right important stuff - it’s guess the squad number time bitches!!

I reckon he’ll get 12, although we do have some weird kinky obsession with giving right backs the number 16 in recent times - Trippier, KWP, Naughton and the legend that was Chris Gunter who started the legacy of the 16 shirt wearing right back brotherhood.

Would have been awesome to give him 22 but we keep giving that to goalkeepers for some odd reason.

Only Spurs fans will find a way to complain about signing one of the highest rated young right backs in world football. It’s one of the weakest positions in our squad with Aurier being checked out, Tanganga being insanely injury prone and new to playing right back and Doherty being an undercover pub footballer

Tell me about it, we’ve had peeps in here complaining all summer we need a new right back.

We get one and now we’re getting all these strange people coming out with why do we need him as we already have three right backs, even though Tanganga is a CENTRE BACK, Aurier wants out and Doherty is as you said an undercover pub footballer.

Here's a video of his every touch against Barca last season:

Really solid performance against good opposition, with a nice assist too. Looks like a great all round full back to me if this is representative of how he usually plays.

This target must be tactical otherwise surely tomiyasu would have be all sewn up. We have lots of solid players in the middle without much penetration so it seems we are going with attacking full backs to try and make things happen whilst staying compact in the middle.

I don't think we will go to 3 at the back, but I do think one reason we bought Emerson is to provide width on the right-hand side - and that will give room for Bryan to push in from the wing, and tuck in behind Kane/Son

I think we will, that's why Nuno has been using it in the Euro conference.
