Spence sums up where we sometimes go badly wrong with transfers. Poor attitude that people were questioning even before he signed. Conte didn't really want him but accepts him as a compromise. And now after failing to impress, he's taking up a squad space and we need to ship him out.

What an absolutely epic waste of time and resources.
Think this one is on Levy. From all the ITK and general noise sounds like he really forced this one through as he clearly saw it as a convenient way of solving multiple problems at once (cheap, homegrown, v.talented, specialist wing back).

Problem is he ignored the question marks around attitude and how deeply stubborn Conte can be. He's about the last manager in the world that's going to accept a 'club signing' and use them as Levy wishes. And after Ndombele we should've learned not to go near any players that have a history of attitude problems. Never know how they'll adjust to a big contract or a different dressing room environment.

I posted he didn't want him before during and after he signed. It's not mental gymnastics to blame Levy after he'd failed to make an impact under numerous managers. I said it from pretty much day one mate. Levy pushed for him and Conte accepted it because he was led to believe it would clear some HG issues and he'd then be able to get the other targets he wanted. Make you own mind up how that worked out. This isn't revisionism on my part and I've been very consistent on this.

Always find it slightly suspicious that signings like Spence, Sissoko, Clarke, maybe even Richy and potentially Johnson might be down to non-football business interests. Slightly odd fits as players, always a bit over priced etc when we haggle so hard elsewhere. I think I've hit conspiracy o'clock. Time for bed... 🤔😆

Couple of rumours doing the rounds that Saudis want aurier so maybe forest might want Spence as their back up RB

20m plus Spence and Sanchez for Johnson seems plausible

Yes and no.

If we weren't going to give Conte the shit he wanted then he should never have been hired. Once we had hired him and he got us to 4th he should have been backed or sacked. Keeping him as manager and not backing him led to the fucking mess we saw last season.
nah, i'm good having a squad without zaniolo and with maddison

There were plenty of red flags before where you hoped he had learnt.

- Rumours he was surrounded by bad apples when he was at Fulham (London life)
- Warnock wanting him away from the Middlesbrough squad.
- The cigar in response to Warnock doing said previous.

On their own, you could maybe put it down to immaturity alone.

But I became increasingly more concerned when his mum was making comments on social media about her son not playing.

That tells you that the family are not of the right kind of discipline and probably believe talent and just turning up alone are enough to make demands.

If the mum is behaving like this then what about the agent and the player.

When I am scouting now, I have to pay attention to the players' environment and the worst kind of parent is the one who hasnt disciplined their kid but believes he deserves everything whereas the best ones are telling them they need to work hard and be patient.

I hadnt seen much of him til his Rennes camios and I thought whilst he looked quite capable forward, his discipline was horrendous and he didnt seem to have interest if he wasnt on the ball.

He is a typical athletic player who relies mostly on that but won't push himself to work on other aspects

Scouting is a tough gig, but you point out some great things that I’ve seen through the academy years.

mine young lad I’ve seen from the age of 9, I always thought he was fantastic player, his family are all about hard work, discipline and focus on the off pitch etc, another player who was brilliantly talented as a youngster, YouTube sensation, Nike sponsor, the lot - folks were only interested in what kid deserved.

mtge latter being bombed out of three clubs now, where as the former is about to break into the first team.
For me, it’s not that difficult to do that kind of due diligence either

Forest have just signed a right back, Montiel, on loan yesterday. They won’t be coming in for Spence.

Leeds would be a fantastic move for him. Similar to Skipp when he went to Norwich, a full season of regular game time in a team that would be expected to push for automatic promotion would suit both parties.

I’d be reluctant to sell as he’s still young and could turn this spell around.

When he wasn’t being selected by Conte, prior to Royal’s Renaissance and Porro’s arrival, I was screaming for him to just be given a chance. But, accepting how little I actually know about football in general, the number of times Spence has had a run out he has looked willing but lacking any quality.

He appears to have excellent physical attributes that give him a platform for success in the future at Spurs but he needs some playing time elsewhere, ideally in the Premier League with a newly promoted team or a Championship side that plays him regularly and a dose of hard work if that’s going to happen.

Are we allowed to loan 2 players to the same club? Rodon and Spence. I don't think this is allowed in the Premier League, but maybe is ok in the Championship?
